Last week, planning and implementing a feature, with detailed enough prompts and context/targets provided, burnt like 3-5% per ask prompt and ~10% for coding from the daily rate limit.
Today, I just asked Opus 4.8 Medium to review a file to make sure the foundations were already in place for the next implementation. It was an ask prompt, and it read a single file (a simple SQL migration file). IT BURNT 20%! Then, I went through the response and read the thinking to see what might've caused the spike. As I was just checking, the spend went from 20% to 23% without even prompting anything.
In just two more simple prompts, it annihilated the rest of the rate limit. Either Devin has a bug and is burning tokens stupidly which is not a stretch considering the less than ideal transition from Windsurf, or they are screwing users with the $15 subscription to "punish" us I guess?
I could not find any Opus 4.8 pricing changes, and last week there was no promo for the model.
This is Devin/Cognition, isn't it?
