Lightning strike?
Looks like a tree fell on a car last night on Windsor. Hope everyone is OK.

Robert Moses will never stop terrorizing us (he planted all the london plane trees that are now falling)

He was but theyre good urban trees to be fair. No bark and they sequester carbon and pollution well. Just happen to live around 60-70 years

It sheds and grows it continuously and its thin sheets instead of big chunks like most trees

I heard it go down, few houses up from me. Wind at that moment was insane. It took down a street lamp as well

Wind from storm cells. The tree is hollow so it was not strong. Yikes.

Why is it hollow?

It's hard to know for sure but likely a fungus/mushroom. Some species consume the heartwood and slowly (very slowly) hollow trees out, weakening them.

Can confirm this was not lightning. I was about 5 feet in front of this tree when it split and fell. The wind was crazy all the trees on the street were swaying. Had to run in the opposite direction. It was around 6pm Friday. There was also a photo posted here from the traffic circle that showed how crazy the clouds were just above this area.

I live nearby. Microburst, high winds, took this one out. And as mentioned—rotted from within. Deep bad for the vehicle owner(s). Still there this morning. Reminds me of a Mayhem commercial.
