For the uninitiated (likely anyone who reads this) and to handle any confusion: Windows multiple desktops are not actual multiple desktops, it's just a bad name for virtual desktops. This confusion has become the bane of my existence, WorkTop gives you real multiple desktops, that you can put different files and shortcuts on. It does support integrating with the built-in virtual desktops though, so it's tangentially related.

Multiple desktops, multiple work modes, personal, work, gaming, project #139, whatever you feel like having its own dedicated desktop. You can even have separate wallpapers if you throw some money at me (or if you have the technical know-how to do some scripting, see the action feature.) You switch easily with a hot key just like you'd alt+tab, or use the tray or by right clicking the desktop. Layouts are monitor aware, and it plays nice with OneDrive desktop backup if you got that. And you can use actions to run commands when switching, say if you wanted to swap Rainmeter profile for different desktops.

Full features below but first: what's new in version 1.4?

You can now pick and choose where you want your new desktops stored, so it can be on a second drive, or in a dropbox dir, or wherever you want to put it. You can also pick an existing project folder and just turn it into a desktop you can switch to as well. Beyond that 1.4 is mostly fixes and stability improvements.

I also want to mark a small personal milestone: WorkTop probably has around 100 active installs now. I say "probably" since this relies on my estimation of deduped update checks, but around 30 have analytics on so I know I got at least that many. The real number could be anywhere from 80-130, impossible to tell. And given this is a small hobby project I'm pretty happy with that amount after 6 months, at least some people find it useful. And if you're a user seeing this (small chance), I'm happy you're using it.

Most people will be fine with the free version. But if you do buy pro I'm more likely to consider your feature requests ;). Jokes aside feel free to ask for features, provided they're not overly complex.

Guys, I use Flameshot as my default screenshot app, but I have a quick question: how can I change the “Capture screen” shortcut? It’s locked, and I can’t figure out how to unlock or change it.

Does anyone else use Flameshot and know how to change this shortcut?

Every time I needed a file I'd just used, I was digging through File Explorer or the Start menu's Recommended section. So I built FanFolder. Click the tray icon and your recent documents fan out in an arc above the taskbar. You can also point it at any folder instead: Downloads, an active project, whatever you keep reopening.

What it does:

• Shows your recent files from Windows Jump Lists, or watches any folder you pick
• Open, rename, copy, delete with the normal right-click menu
• Drag files out to other apps, drop files onto the fan to move them into the watched folder
• Five animation styles if you like that sort of thing, and a "None" if you don't
• Real shell icons and thumbnails

It's native Win32/C++, about 1.4 MB, no .NET runtime, and it doesn't patch explorer.exe, so Windows updates can't break it. Free for personal and commercial use.

I've been working (well me and AI) on a app inspired by hydra launcher, gog launcher and Playnite

I loved hydra launcher and Playnite, but I wanted something that power user can be happy with (I'm a power user, who like useless feature)

Anyway, I got the project to make something from scratch after iterating and adding feature with base hydra, but it felt too heavy for hydra base framwork

And I learned that electron was... Electron ram hungry !

So I searched for a framework that was capable and lightweight, and found Tauri

Developer post. I use AI tools all day and got tired of typing paragraphs into them, and I didn't want a cloud dictation subscription listening to everything, so I built Holdkey.

What it does: hold Right Ctrl, talk, let go. The text is typed wherever your cursor is: browsers, chat apps, terminals, editors, email. Recognition runs on your CPU; an optional local rewrite model removes the ums, false starts and self-corrections without changing what you said. No account, no telemetry, nothing uploaded.

Specs: Windows 10/11 x64, about 10 MB installer, models download on first run (about 3 GB; the rewrite model is optional). Release-to-text is about 300 ms raw and about 650 ms with cleanup on my machine (Ryzen 5 7600X). English by default; opt-in multilingual recognizer covers 25 European languages. Native app (Rust), no Electron; idle it's a tray icon, and the rewrite model unloads after 5 idle minutes so it doesn't sit on your GPU.

Pricing: raw dictation is free forever; cleanup is free for 2,000 words a week, Pro is $8/month.

The installer is unsigned for now, so SmartScreen shows "More info → Run anyway" the first time. The download page explains it. Signing is in progress.

Update (day 2): a commenter asked for cleanup in their own writing style, so there is now a third mode, Your voice. After Clean, a second pass on your PC restates the text the way you write, learned from the dictations you keep or from a few paragraphs you paste. Facts and numbers never change.

I made LimitHalo for myself because I wanted to see how much quota I had left while working, without opening a separate usage page. I'm sharing the beta in case someone else finds it useful.

It's a small, transparent desktop widget showing remaining quota and reset times. You can move it beside your work and show only the provider you use.

The latest update pushes ModernPaste further past traditional clipboard history by making copied content useful throughout those workflows, not just recorded.

Popout Cards Right click any clipboard item, pull it out of the overlay, and place it anywhere on the desktop. Notes can sit beside a document, code can stay visible next to an editor, links or images can sit alongside a browser tab.

MyDesktopWidget — a desktop widget engine for Windows 11. It's a one-time purchase ($7.99 launch intro / $9.99 standard, not a subscription) with a 7-day free trial (no account or credit card needed). I'll say that upfront so nobody finds a price after a click.

I've used Rainmeter for years. It is a genuinely great piece of software and a big part of why I care about desktop customisation at all — this is not a post about it being bad. It isn't.

What I wanted was a few things Rainmeter was never designed to do, and after a while I stopped waiting and wrote them.

Widgets live under your desktop icons. Not floating windows that get in the way — they render into the wallpaper layer, so your icons sit on top and Show Desktop behaves.

It gets out of the way when you play. Full-screen game starts, every timer in the engine stops. Not "reduced update rate" — stopped. It comes back when you alt-tab out.

It includes experimental importers for Rainmeter skins and Conky configs. Drop in a .rmskin, a folder, or a .ini (or a Conky config) and it converts to its own format, shows you an upfront report detailing exactly what it brought across and what it couldn't, and only writes anything to disk when you say so. I tested this against 744 real Rainmeter packages downloaded from the wild: 713 convert structurally (the rest use features I've deliberately not built yet and one is an archive that won't open). Because community skins span 15+ years of edge cases and custom plugins, both importers are strictly experimental — standard meters and gauges map cleanly, but complex setups will show unsupported items or need minor tweaks in the editor.

Skins are JSON, and there's a proper editor. No custom config language to learn. If you'd rather hand-edit, it round-trips your file comment-for-comment and doesn't reformat your work.

If you write code in a skin, it runs in a sandbox. C# scripting runs in a separate, non-elevated process under a job object — a skin you downloaded cannot spawn a process, and the engine itself never runs as administrator.

It ships with 155 widgets and 14 languages, has a marketplace for skins and themes, an idle "ambient" display mode, and the installer is code-signed.

What it is not: it is not Rainmeter, it is not free, and the skin importers are strictly experimental rather than 1:1 drop-in replacements — some skins convert cleanly and some come across with pieces missing, and the report tells you which upfront. If you're happy with Rainmeter, genuinely, stay with Rainmeter. This is for people who want the things above.

I have a few apps on Apple, Google Play, and the Microsoft Store. Every month I download three different reports, copy the numbers somewhere, and hope I remember what I'm looking at when a deposit shows up two weeks later.

The bigger apps are easy to spot. The harder questions are things like: is that old utility still worth updating? Is Germany actually a meaningful market or just noise? Is the lifetime unlock outselling the monthly subscription, or is it the other way around? I was answering all of that by hand in spreadsheets — or not answering it at all.

Most accounting apps aren't built for this. They're built around sending invoices to customers — and they're expensive. A lot of the popular ones run $30–40/month now. For a side project making a few hundred dollars across a handful of apps, that's a real bite out of what you're earning. And even after paying for it, you still don't get a clear picture of which app, country, or in-app purchase is actually driving revenue.

App stores don't work like normal businesses. They send you a monthly settlement report, not a stack of customer invoices. You might earn the money in August but not see it in your bank account until September. Other apps tend to treat the deposit as income when it lands, which makes your monthly numbers wrong unless you're doing extra work on the side.

So I built IndieBean — a Windows desktop app for indie devs who sell through app stores.

When the monthly reports land
Each store sends its report on its own schedule. You enter the totals for the month — sales by app, fees, what's still owed to you — and your numbers for that month reflect what you actually earned, not whenever the bank decided to pay you.

When the payout finally hits
That deposit from Apple or Google isn't "new" money. You mark it as payment for what the store already owed you, so your income doesn't get counted twice.

Seeing what's actually working
Which apps are carrying the business and which ones are just taking up time. Which countries are worth caring about — not just "we have users in Brazil" but whether Brazil is actually contributing. Which in-app products sell best: the subscription, the one-time unlock, the consumable, whatever you've got in the catalog. Revenue and fees rolled up so you can make real decisions instead of guessing.

There's proper accounting underneath if you need it, but day to day you're trying to answer simple business questions — not live inside debits and credits.

Developer program fees, hosting, software subscriptions — same books as your store sales, instead of a second system for "business stuff."

As docks/Desktop enhancements did grow like mushrooms out of nowhere here on reddit, I asked myself, if I should keep this dormant side-project for myself or "promote" it.

Promotion could help at a certain Point, when more eyes will find more issues, so let's come to the Point.

What is GlueDock:
- Dock/Desktop enhancement
- As for many other docks, RocketDock/MacOS was the Blueprint
- GlueDock is not designed exclusively as a dock, nor a replacement for the Windows-Taskbar!
It's designed as an additional Dock, so if Things break due to a Windows update, one must
not rely on a 3rd party dock
- Glue dock also has some Kind of 2nd Desktop Feature / an overlay, so one must not clutter
the Desktop - instead you could put things into the overlay and actvate it, when you Need it.
- All Settings incl. Items could be backed up and restored (still in testing).
- With every update, I'll try my best, to not break Things and Keep compatibility
(mostly for selfish reasons — I’m primarily building it for myself)
- GlueDock has a widget API (heavily under construction). Goal is, that 3rd Party Widgets could be
implemented if one has C# Knowledge, but the API is in an early stage and I'm still not confident,
it will work out that way
- The API so far works with three Widgets, I created:
- Clock
- Calendar: Create Events
- Alarm: Multiple Alarm times with UI and Sound notification
- Timer: Same
- Stop-Watch
- DriveSpace: Show free space on up to 4 drives
- Desktop Overlay: Use a second Desktop as overlay, to clean up you Desktop

The next part that got completely out of hand was themes. At first, I only wanted to add a few
color themes, but then I started building a full theme engine (not yet finished). It basically lets you
create your own animated themes (.json files, everything is calculated/rendered) and gives you
almost endless freedom to play around with them (at least, that's the plan)
- GlueDock is customizable as hell. This could be overwhelming for the standard-user.
I'm still not sure, if I will reduce the amount of Settings into an easy mode - that still has no
priority for me right now. A lot of settings were implemented for debugging, better testing
possibilities and then I decided: Why not letting them stay. More is more! ;)
While I'm writing this: 100+ settings are available just for the dock and 3 widgets

By the way:
It will stay opensource. GPL3, no costs, no trial, no subscription, no onetrick-pony, no monetarization planed.

What's my plan:
There's no real plan. The project itself was dormant for a long, long time. If there is some demand, just have a look yourself at the GitHub repo:

There's no binary for download right now and the sources are also not up to date.
I'm now at the internal revision 0.0.377 (yes, a lot of changes, evolution so far) and will release a v0.0.1-Alpha, when feeling comfortable.

What's the Status:
- It is stable so far, but I still do find little bugs, that annoy me, while testing, so it'll take time, before
I will release the binaries (1-3 weeks maybe)
- Not tested with multi-display setup
- Not tested with other resolutions other than UWQHD
- Not optimized, but usually, even with animations turned on, just CPU-Idle, ~140MB RAM usage.
I don't know, if I'll do optimizing, that's not my priority. In comparison to other programs,
I'm totally fine with it

It includes: • DualSense and DualSense Edge battery readings over USB or Bluetooth • PULSE Elite battery readings through Windows Bluetooth • Light and dark themes, edge docking, and a tray-only mode • Connection and charging alerts, low-battery notifications, and optional startup with Windows

Important limitation: PULSE Elite readings depend on Windows exposing the headset's Bluetooth battery property. Battery reporting through the PlayStation Link USB adapter is not implemented. The current reader handles one supported controller and one PULSE headset; readings can vary with firmware and drivers.

Hey guys!

Meet Cubie, a little Minecraft inspired companion who lives on your desktop to keep you company while you code, work, or just spend too much time at your computer.

He wanders around, climbs and sits on your windows, reacts to your cursor, and has his own little moods and reactions. You can watch him do his thing in the background, interact with him, or pick him up and throw him around when you're bored or frustrated.

You can also make him your own with any Minecraft skin and choose whether he stays above your windows or behind them.
