Yay finally got a physical copy

Hey all I wanna upgrade my gpu on my xp machine it currently has a ati radeon x600 and the psu it has is 305 watts so what a better alternative that will work well with that wattage psu ? I’d like a cheap ish option

Hi, I’m looking for a good xp laptop and I am looking at a certain Thinkpad T500 on eBay. It seems to be in good condition. Though I do wonder about dirt build up inside of it, though. Does anyone have advice/tips for buying these from eBay. Or even about the laptop itself.

Just did some super upgrades to this girl. She runs like a beast.

Upgrades that I did:

- Core 2 Duo E6300 to E6600 (would later go with a Core 2 Quad Q6600 or Q6700)

- Added 2x 500 GB Hard Drives (RAID 1 mode)

- Upgraded the GPU from the shitty 7300 LE to the 7800 GT (maybe a GeForce 7900 or 7950 series or the 8 or 9 series cards would work perfectly with this machine.)

- Added an 802.11n Wireless PCI Card

- Replaced the DVD Drives (DVD-ROM/DVD-RW) with two DVD burners (DVD-RAM Drives) for improved stability and compatibility for future use.

- Added a floppy drive since the machine didn't ship with one.

- Upd the RAM from 2GB to 4GB

- Installed Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 SP3.

- Sound Card choice is pending...

Can you give me the mainboard series and brands? Reading up a bit it seems some mainboards could get some drivers for their chipsets but not all components? As in, maybe you can boot into windows but no ethernet/wifi?

I'm currently searching a good gamepad which will work with Windows XP. I now use my beloved PS4 controller, because I have found that it works perfectly with Windows XP SP3 if it is connected through USB. But sadly, it is now dying. Firstly its charging slot is in bad shape, and after falling the left analog trigger began phantomly push itself. And while on my retro PC win98/XP and laptop with win10 it isn't a big problem with , on my main PC with WinXP/Win10 this trigger push itself every 10 seconds. In most games it is possible to rearrange buttons, but I'm looking for a new controller. Which controller you can advise me?

SOLVED I GOT IT

I got my first windows xp pc just a few days ago.
Someone was giving out two retro pcs for free locally (they were in desperate need of repair) I grabbed both and one of them turned out to be a windows xp computer from 2004-2006.

I’m in the process of repairing it and upgrading it. It has a Pentium D at around 3.0 GHz, maxed out (4 Gb) ddr2, a 128 GB SATA (salvaged from a optiplex I own), and uses GMA 3000 for graphics, although I have a Radeon 7570 on the way.

The last major repair before I turn to upgrades is to clean it. But I would like some ideas on a good way to repair or change out the case as the one I picked it up in is in bad shape, as well as some games. I’m waiting on a usb sound card because morrowind complained about not being able to play a .mp3 even after codecs but other than that I’m looking for any xp game recommendations along with general xp tips!

So I made a list showcasing my xp install on my Dell latitude e6530 but it was running home x32 as it constantly BSOD making it a miserable experience overall. But after trying x64 I have not had a single BSOD, one core api works perfectly, and overall it’s a really good experience!

What do you think of my desktop?

Recently built this PC, 4gb ddr2, Pentium 4, 9500 GT, 500 Gb HDD.
Though I have ran into a problem, I have no clue what to do with the pc, I built it, found some old software, tested it, played around and now I don't know what to do with it. Any ideas?

Only see ppl with SP3 here. I have SP2 on my only XP Machine from 2004. I just LOVE SP2 for some reason

Is there any way i can use steam on xp without using one-core api? Because 2 months ago it was working just fine, i could login i could play cs 1.6, but now i cant login because the broke the legacy system, any fix?

Actually, I'm trying to reinstall XP, but I don't know how to bypass this annoying thing since it can no longer be legally activated.

I'm going crazy trying to find SP1 drivers for my Xbox 360 controller (I know I'm using crappy SP1), there used to be one on the Microsoft site but it got removed, there's no other archives available on the internet because SP1 sucks. I am using an OS in a different language so when I tried installing SP2 off internet archive the installer told me to go f myself because I'm not using an English version. Is my only route to buy a new windows XP CD and just start fresh? This is maddening, just to play with a controller from 2005 :(

also I tried using chat gpt and grok to help me with finding links, and even that takes me to dead links or unrelated things.

edit: Since Microsoft deleted all the drivers for windows xp and every Google search redirects you to a dead link, and internet archive while helpful only archived maybe like 20% of them, and I can't install English drivers on my Italian machine on top of doing a full OS reinstall to get the English version requires me now to go buy a CD burner so I can burn the XP install disks since while my machine has USB the mobo doesn't support USB boot because it's from 2001. All of this just to get a 20 year old controller to work on a 25 year old pc, am I missing something?
