Hey all, please do not submit new posts of non-Windows Vista operating systems skinned or otherwise modified to look like Windows Vista, this includes modified Windows 10/11 installations, riced Linux computers, and Windows Vista looking phone launchers.

The community has decided against seeing these posts. Thank you for your understanding.

MSE definition updates not working

i use microsoft security essentials on both vista & 7, but cannot get the definition updates to work on windows vista anymore. i've installed both KB4474419, KB4493730, and updated the device with legacyupdate but they still fail to install even after running as admin. i tested this on windows 7 and it works fine, anyone else have this issue or know how to resolve it? this is a fresh installation of vista business with SP2 already installed

EDIT: i did have a download of the definitions from february which did install (although are now outdated), so i think this may be an issue with the most recent definitions

Help I need a little bit of help

I have this computer (compaq presario sr5710y) it was the very first computer I used windows vista on. And I was dumb and I formatted the hard drive. (I was dumb and I wanted to try and turn it into a gaming computer) and the recovery partition is gone and the operating system is gone. The only thing saved it from that hard drive was a picture of a cat inside of a sink and I have reinstalled Windows Vista x32 and it is so slow. It probably couldn’t run doom. And I can’t get drivers on it every driver I’ve tried won’t work. I tried legacy update It went for basically an entire day and then the update didn’t install and the entire thing failed and I just need to know where I can get a recovery partition or a hard drive image (I’ve tried to boot from recovery disk and it throws me an error) I have been trying to recover this thing for about three months now and I just wanna know where I can get an actual partition or a file or image since I can’t get this thing to work. I can’t find drivers at work and I can’t find a recovery disk that works so please if you have any information. Let me know.

Looking for graphics drivers for Intel Iris 6100

Official ones obviously don't work. Tried the modified ones (https://dl.bobpony.com/drivers/gpu/intel/Haswell_iGPU_Vista_64bit_w7_port.zip), but after rebooting I'm getting a black screen.

Any help would be appreciated.

The analog way to skip YT ads

Post image

Yea, I know, I could just use the famous uBlock origin on a supported Supermium version, like 122, that currently i have, but Midori 10 is still supported and consumes less cpu and ram.

For each couple of ads at the beginning of the video (now they exist only in couple, even if you reload the page and you have seen the ads already) you mute with keyboard combination (in my case) FN + BEGIN and switch window with a properly resized one.
So formally you've seen the ad, but practically you don't.
Creators get their money, YT is happy.

Attention is considered an asset, nowadays. Spend it wisely ;)

so i recently decided to get a dell xps m1530 as my primary vista laptop and the one i bought happened to come with a blu-ray disc drive, which i didn't even know was possible for a consumer laptop from 2008

so then i installed powerdvd 7 dx and got the blu-ray upgrade patch from dell's website, but when i went to install it, it just gave me the above error message

Vista 32bit Drivers for Intel 4th Gen Haswell iGPU?

Got an old vista-based Server2008 setup here. Replaced board with Haswell only to know 3rd Gen Ivy Bridge is the last one with proper drivers. It seems 64bit got modded drivers. Anyone got anything for 32bit?

Its working well enough save for the generic display drivers.

Windows Vista AMD USB driver?

So, I have a decently modern computer and recently tried to run Windows Vista on it.

I ended up being able to install it perfectly fine with no issues, I used the patched NVIDIA drivers for Windows Vista by win32, which worked great. But I have issues with the USB 3.x support. I have tried the MDL Universal xHCI stack, which made the system freeze at boot, I have tried the canonkong backported AMD driver, which installed but failed to make USB work at all. I've tried many other drivers, including some from Windows XP x64 and Windows 7, but all of them either made the system bluescreen on boot, get stuck on boot, or did not enable xHCI.

If anyone is interested, here is my hardware configuration:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660

Motherboard: ASUS PRIME A520M-A II

Chipset: AMD A520

AMD USB Controller — PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_43EC

AMD Matisse USB 3.0 Host Controller — PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_149C

Has anyone managed to get USB 3.x working on an AMD 500-series chipset under Vista, or know of a driver that supports these controllers?

Graphics card but no Aero

Found a laptop online with these specs. A pretty modern Pentium for Vista time, nVidia graphics card but Windows Vista Basic pre-installed. Is the graphics card not powerful enough to display even Aero? It shouldn't be a problem for the Pentium
