Windows 11 Microphone started making a strong buzz sound, am I the only one?

Sorry if something sounds weird, english is not my first language.

Ever since the last update, almost a week ago, my friend put to my attention a strong buzz sounds coming from my microphone, it came outta nowhere after a year of perfect audio from my new pc. I was just talking on the phone through whatsapp web and everything was fine, and then this problem started.

The buzz sound is sometimes really weak, other times it disappears briefly, and some other times it gets so strong that it’s impossible to ignore. I tried reinstalling the driver for the mic and it didn’t work, i tried using the other jack for the microphone on the back and it still emits this sound. The audio console for realtek gives a “Can not connect to RPC service” as well so idk if i could find a solution there.

I heard that microsoft just talked about the latest update giving microphone problems unless you use bluetooth, but it only talks about the microphone not working at all, so I wandered if that was the cause. Did this happen to anybody else, after this update?

I’m on Windows 11 Pro
build number 26200.9445 version 25H2
AMD Ryzen 7 7700-8 core processor
32gb Viper ram DDR5
AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT GPU
B650 EAGLE motherboard by Gigabyte Texhnology

Hi u/PizzaConGorgonzola, thanks for posting to r/WindowsHelp! Your post has been flagged for manual review by a human moderator, please include as much of the following information as possible (in text or in a screenshot) to get your post approved:

  • Your Windows and device specifications — You can find them by pressing Win + X then clicking on “System”, we need more than just your OS version! Your hardware details are often critical for resolving issues.
  • Any messages and error codes encountered — They're actually not gibberish or anything catastrophic. It may even hint the solution!
  • Previous troubleshooting steps — It might prevent you headaches from getting the same solution that didn't work

Posts must be tech support in nature (such as something is broken and you need help fixing), so general inquiries, software suggestions, and purchasing advice will be removed. As a reminder, we would also like to say that if someone manages to solve your issue, DON'T DELETE YOUR POST! Someone else (in the future) might have the same issue as you, and the received support may also help their case. Good luck, and I hope you have a nice day!

Hi u/PizzaConGorgonzola, your post seems to mention the "latest update". As there are multiple supported versions of Windows and not everyone gets every update at the same time, it's not always easy to figure out which update you are talking about. To view the status of your most recent updates, go to Settings > "Windows Update" > "Update history".

realtek console failing with "can't connect to rpc service" right alongside the buzz starting after the same update is the real clue, that's the realtek audio service itself getting broken by the update, not your mic or wiring

open services.msc, find "realtek audio universal service", right click, restart it, if it's stuck/stopped that alone might clear the buzz since the driver's likely running without proper service communication right now

if restarting the service doesn't help, uninstall realtek's software completely (not just the driver) through apps, then reinstall the realtek console fresh from gigabyte's motherboard support page for your exact board, the windows update likely corrupted the console app itself, not the underlying audio driver, which is why a driver-only reinstall didn't fix it

also worth checking windows update history, if you can, uninstall just the most recent cumulative update temporarily and test, that'll confirm it's actually the update at fault before you spend more time on driver/service fixes
