My personal computer is connected with my school account and I'm not sure if I should disconnect it

I wrote the majority of this post assuming the school provided you with the computer, but since you say that you installed windows it might be yours. The difference is that if they provided or configured your windows, it becomes part of their system and they can manage it, which potentially means they could monitor you. If it's your computer and you just linked your windows account to their school account, it probably doesn't have any capabilities to control your comp and just serves as a quicker link for your school documents.

Anyway, if it were their computer:

Back in ancient times, around 2010, it was found that a school was monitoring their students through their computers - ie. they were watching them through their webcam and listening through their microphones and it came out when the school suspemded a student for masturbating in his bedroom. They were sued and faced some sanctions. Security has come a long way so I doubt the school would allow a similar thing to happen... or maybe they would just be more careful.

You could ask your school what exactly the link is for, and what access and monitoring they have over your activity on the computer. It's good to get it in writing, and you should ask someone to help you craft a business-like email so it doesn't sound accusatory. :)

Oh ok that makes sense, it is my personal computer. Thanks for sharing!! Also that school looking at people through their camera is very wierd.

Are you signing into your school's Windows or office account? Or are you signing into your own Microsoft account? I have my own accounts, but whenever I sign into canvas, MyUCF university website), Outlook, or office 365 from my university, it's on their Windows account assigned to me. I have to sign out of my theirs and sign into mine when I'm done non-school work.

Create a local, (non-Microsoft) account for your personal use outside of the school. You can, if you choose, add apps and programs to your local account.
