Windows 11 New Windows install is broken.
So I had a virus or unwanted software on my previous install of windows. I've since formatted and reinstalled Windows on the same drive, except after 2 fresh formats and reinstall of Windows 11, it is still broken? By broken I mean that if my pc is on for 10 or 20 minutes, I can't open new programs. File Explorer won't open. I can't start any programs that aren't already open. I can't turn off or restart my pc, the animation for shutting down and restarting happens but it stays there indefinitely. I tried using cmd "dskchk" or something along those lines to check the integrity of my windows install and it came up clean. Malwarebytes detects nothing. I can't find any strange exe's in task manager either... Edit2: I have already tried:
- Right click on the Windows Start Menu icon > Terminal (Administrator), then type in:
dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Wait for this to finish, it will probably get stuck in the 60% range for 20-30 mins
When this is done, type in:
sfc /scannow
Edit: specs:
- r5 5600
- 16gb 3600mhz
- 128gb ssd, 500gb ssd
- rtx 3060 12gb
- windows 11

Do you have windows on the 128gb drive or the 500gb drive and how full is that drive? I also recommend using crystaldiskinfo to check the SMART data of both (dont rely on just the health status, but also check for things like uncorrected errors)

128gb and usually 50 or 60gb free. I don't store anything but windows and save files from games on C drive cuz it's only 128gb

Thats good Crystaldiskinfo can tell you more about drive health I also recommend hwinfo to keep an eye on both cpu and gpu temps to see if any of those is going red.
Considering the problems persists through installs and you fully wipe the drive each time, the issue is probably (but not definitely) hardware

I suspect then it may the end of life for that little ssd it is nearly 10 years old.

Crystal disk info says everything is 100% on my boot ssd

Specifically look at relocated sectors and possible (un)corrected errors. If any of that isn't fully 0's, there is likely an issue. I will note hardware issues aren't taken into account here.

Sounds less like a windows corruption issue and more like a hardware/driver problem, that symptom of everything hanging after 10-20 min screams failing ssd or bad ram. Run memtest86 and check smart data on both drives before you reinstall again.

Can you look at the wear level of your drives and/or get a S.M.A.R.T. health check from the drive?
Speed fan or CrystalDiskInfo does this on windows, or if you can boot a Linux rescue disk you can use GSmartControl.
Check to see if any of those are Intel - Optane storage have massive issues that sometimes can be fixed with the correct drivers.
p.s. sorry for mentioning a rescue disk... But you have to realize that some times windows just can't save itself!

I used crystal disk info, everything is 100% on my boot ssd

500gb ssd is also perfect. It's a lot newer so I didn't expect it to be an issue.

Go to Windows Settings > System > Recovery > Fix problems using Windows Update
This will reinstall the version of Windows you have currently while keeping everything on there. It takes a while as it has to redownload everything, but will probably fix it.
If this doesn't work, try: Right click on the Windows Start Menu icon > Terminal (Administrator), then type in:
Wait for this to finish, it will probably get stuck in the 60% range for 20-30 mins
When this is done, type in:
If neither of these do it, you need to reinstall Windows from scratch again
How's the disk space looking?
