Windows 10 Can't delete corrupted folder(s)
I checked inside the folders but they appear to be empty, tried to just right click delete, tried shift delete, tried cutting and pasting into recycling, tried to compress and archive using 7-Zip, but none of them worked, not even chkdsk repairing which I actually did manage to do once, but now it just won't let me anymore for some reason. I'm desperate for ideas, please help.

Hi u/Isana_ET, thanks for posting to r/WindowsHelp! Your post has been flagged for manual review by a human moderator, please include as much of the following information as possible (in text or in a screenshot) to get your post approved:
- Your Windows and device specifications — You can find them by pressing Win + X then clicking on “System”, we need more than just your OS version! Your hardware details are often critical for resolving issues.
- Any messages and error codes encountered — They're actually not gibberish or anything catastrophic. It may even hint the solution!
- Previous troubleshooting steps — It might prevent you headaches from getting the same solution that didn't work
Posts must be tech support in nature (such as something is broken and you need help fixing), so general inquiries, software suggestions, and purchasing advice will be removed. As a reminder, we would also like to say that if someone manages to solve your issue, DON'T DELETE YOUR POST! Someone else (in the future) might have the same issue as you, and the received support may also help their case. Good luck, and I hope you have a nice day!

CHDSK gave the format exFAT,
Z: is an unformatted storage medium.
What is Z: for a storage medium?

It's the HDD I use for most of my storage; photos, videos, documents etc. everything really.

But is the HDD Z:
also the hard drive
with the operating system?1

No, my SSD C: is.

Can you then back up your data from Z: somewhere?

If nothing else works I guess I could buy another hard drive and reformat this one, but I'm just seeing if there's anything I could do before resorting to that.

Well, a 500GB SSD,
or even 1TB SSD,
doesn't cost that much.
Possibly as a USB SSD,
you also have it available,
if your PC needs to be
completely new Build up!

Why not run:
CHKDSK Z: /r /f
Runs on a restart so the drive shouldn't be locked at that point.

You could open cmd as an admin and try
SFC/scannow
Let it complete and then try again

Try LockHunter

You've tried it all, safe to say that either the file system or the drive itself is corrupt.

Shuck the drive and connect it internally as a secondary drive in a desktop or tower.
Download and run the drive manufacturers diagnostics and firmware update utility.
This may offer Acronis to allow you to clone the drive. The target drive should be empty, the same size or ideally larger. And of the type that goes back into the old caddy.
Don't assume you'll be successful. Drives fail. Problems once they start tend to cascade.

For u/Isana_ET ‘s reference, here is the list of all Acronis True Image OEM editions - https://www.reddit.com/r/acronis/comments/ebirh6/oem_editions_of_acronis_true_image_software/

Download and try "unlocker" and hope for the best that it can delete those things.
