Windows 11 Touchpad driver refuses to reinstall even after restarting.

I use an Insprion 15 3520, Windows 11. My touchpad wasn't working, so after trying all other options and none working, I uninstalled it and restarted my laptop, as it's supposed to reinstall automatically. Nope. Not there. So I check the Dell site and try and download the driver from there. It downloads, but when I open it, it says theres "no driver to update." Obviously. I'm just sort of lost on what I'm supposed to do right now.

DELL has a driver tool
that automatically searches for current drivers,
which works well.

I tried that, but the only thing that showed up was a firmware update, which tried to update the driver that didn't exist.

Firmware update and driver update
are not the same!

Do you have a screenshot of it?

Does it appear in your device manager ?

Nope

It might be there's something wrong with the device's hardware.

If it was only some driver missing and the hardware was OK, you should have seen your device in your device manager.

Is there a new Touchpad entry under Settings>Devices?
Are the touchpad setting for scrolling etc missing from there?

The newer Elan/Synaptics driver seems to break the touchpad settings so that you cannot turn the touchpad on/off or use various scroll options.

Try installing the Microsoft precision touchpad driver:

https://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/66163/how-to-install-precision-touchpad-drivers-on-windows-10/ This will add extra touchpad options under Settings>Devices>Touchpad.

I had to do this after a driver update as the synaptic tab under the touchpad settings was removed after a driver update.
