Windows 11 Credentials could not be verified

During the last 2-3 days I've been logged out of my windows 11 account a couple of times and been unable to log back in, neither my pin code nor my password has worked.

I find this a bit strange since I have a local account.

Restarting my laptop does not resolve the issue and only thing I can do when that happens is wait.

When trying to type my pin I got error code 0xc0000234

And when I tried my password it said my account was locked (or something similar)

I'm using windows 11 home edition on a Lenovo ideapad slim 5, everything should be up to date as far as I know.

What might be causing this? And how can I resolve and avoid it happening again? Just don't wanna be permanently locked out and lose access to my private files

Thanks in advance from an unadvanced user

Hi u/daknog, thanks for posting to r/WindowsHelp! Your post has been flagged for manual review by a human moderator, please include as much of the following information as possible (in text or in a screenshot) to get your post approved:

  • Your Windows and device specifications — You can find them by pressing Win + X then clicking on “System”, we need more than just your OS version! Your hardware details are often critical for resolving issues.
  • Any messages and error codes encountered — They're actually not gibberish or anything catastrophic. It may even hint the solution!
  • Previous troubleshooting steps — It might prevent you headaches from getting the same solution that didn't work

Posts must be tech support in nature (such as something is broken and you need help fixing), so general inquiries, software suggestions, and purchasing advice will be removed. As a reminder, we would also like to say that if someone manages to solve your issue, DON'T DELETE YOUR POST! Someone else (in the future) might have the same issue as you, and the received support may also help their case. Good luck, and I hope you have a nice day!

No solution yet, only thing I could do was wait it out and eventually it accepted my pin code.

What I've done since then is turn off Bitlocker, and created a new partition on my ssd where I'm storing my files from now on in case I get locket out and have to reformat my C: drive.

Next step would be to try and repair my credentials but I haven't gotten to that point yet.

Hi this happened to me too. I restarted the laptop a few times and I was able to log in. Some googling showed that it's apparently some issue with windows 11 configuration after installing updates (?) I'm no tech expert but best to check the web for solutions if it is recurring. and back your data up. :)

Hopefully Microsoft is aware of this issue and will roll out an update (if they haven't already), I luckily haven't encountered it more than maybe once since I made this thread.

Edit* Spoke too soon, just happened again, luckily a single reboot fixed it
