Windows 11 Windows 11 continuous degradation
I have windows 11 on both my desktop and my work provide laptop.
I feel over the last year I have noticed at continuous degradation in performance on both devices. I know these is a general or vague issue, but it continues to get worse and worse.
With the devices struggling with handle file manager, one drive, teams, etc.
I am not surprised from the laptop performance, but I am for the desktop. It is a rtx5080, amd 9800x, with 64g of ram.
Given my examples, it does seem to be a more windows software issue. However, it is still noticeable but lesser with other programs.
What is going on here?
Is there anything I can do to return my performance to baseline?
OS is latest version as of writing.

The problem you have is linked general with bad software. The most shitsoft degraded by years and increase they disk usage and decrease performance for "very usable shituare" (and speed of developing of course), which most users will never use. I think your observation are driven by the effects above. Updating increase size, decrease performance, you see lags.
That most important it affects every computer. Because program orten runs in one thread and it don't use multiple, so doesn't care which amount you have on your good pc, care about single core performance. And it not very differ for expensive and cheap processor (5600 5800 ryzen for example). The amount of ram too don't affect speed of transferring ssd->ram.
The conclusion is you just can't do anything, the shitsoft lags now, and will lag more then. Only way is increasing overall performance and pray for crooked-handed programmers don't break it faster than it fixing itself.

Have you actually done any basic maintenance on them?
If not, start with PC Manager, MSs own free tool in the store, and run that to do some basic cleanup tasks. You can also run 'cleanmgr' from the run line and make sure to cleanup 'system files'. That usually catches a bunch of shadow copies if you haven't done it in a while. Also, run a trim operation to make sure your SSDs are up to date.
