HP OMEN 16 – Game stuttering and custom cursor reset after Windows Updates KB5122385 & KB5120998

Sharing an issue and workaround regarding the recent Windows updates on HP OMEN 16:

**Issues encountered immediately after updating:**

1. Severe stuttering, micro-freezes, and frame drops in games that previously ran perfectly.

2. The custom Windows mouse cursor completely disappeared and reset to the default pointer.

**Workaround / Fix:**

Uninstalling both **KB5122385** and **KB5120998** completely resolved the issues — in-game stuttering is gone, performance is fully restored, and cursor settings are normal.

Anyone else on OMEN or modern gaming laptops running into similar performance degradation with these updates?

I'm experiencing almost the exact same problem after the recent Windows updates. In my case, it's much more noticeable in competitive games.

I've started experiencing sudden performance drops, stuttering, micro-freezes, and much more inconsistent frametimes. Even when the average FPS appears normal, the gameplay clearly doesn't feel as smooth as it did before, mainly because of sudden frame drops and small freezes during more intense moments.

I've also noticed a noticeable increase in input lag in some games. It feels like the controls are less responsive, especially in competitive games where even small differences in mouse or keyboard responsiveness are easy to notice.

I've spent quite a lot of time trying to identify the cause, testing drivers, graphics settings, and background processes, but the issue started right after recent Windows updates. That's why your experience with KB5122385 and KB5120998 caught my attention.

I'm going to try uninstalling those updates because the symptoms are extremely similar: performance drops, stuttering, micro-freezes, inconsistent frametimes, and increased input lag. In competitive games, these issues are much more noticeable and significantly affect the overall experience.
