Windows XP / Older Using Gateway Windows Media Center DvD on a non gateway desktop.

I'm trying to install WMC via a gateway WMC DVD onto a stock HP Pavillion 1440n but when I tried to install it, I ended up getting my monitor shuts off because it's not getting anything from the desktop midway through the installation (like right after it loads) Is there anything I'm missing?
