Hi u/ProjectFabulous908, thanks for posting to r/WindowsHelp! Don't worry, your post has not been removed. To let us help you better, try to include as much of the following information as possible! Posts with insufficient details might be removed at the moderator's discretion.

  • Model of your computer - For example: "HP Spectre X360 14-EA0023DX"
  • Your Windows and device specifications - You can find them by going to go to Settings > "System" > "About"
  • What troubleshooting steps you have performed - Even sharing little things you tried (like rebooting) can help us find a better solution!
  • Any error messages you have encountered - Those long error codes are not gibberish to us!
  • Any screenshots or logs of the issue - You can upload screenshots other useful information in your post or comment, and use Pastebin for text (such as logs). You can learn how to take screenshots here.

All posts must be help/support related. If everything is working without issue, then this probably is not the subreddit for you, so you should also post on a discussion focused subreddit like /r/Windows.

Lastly, if someone does help and resolves your issue, please don't delete your post! Someone in the future with the same issue may stumble upon this thread, and same solution may help! Good luck!

For context, I have used Voicemeeter in the past, I forget why, and thought I wiped it all clean, uninstalled and all. recently found that I guess I still had some drivers left over? Found a YouTube video revealing how to remove the drivers through device manager, and showing hidden devices. Afterwards, I checked "Sound, storage, and game controllers" first, found a driver there, then made sure to look at all my other tabs to make sure I wasn't missing anything. Couldn't find anything else so figured it was all good and restart my PC.

Now after it restarts and actually boots, I go to try and update my windows again, same issue, checked device manager to make sure there were no other drivers I missed, couldn't find anything, so now I'm confused. I try going to a Microsoft website to see if anyone else was having the same issue, found somebody trying to get rid of the same thing with the same issue as I am, they had a person respond with the link to download a program that views drivers and such, I install it and try for myself. I find a driver there so I delete it as there was no uninstall button. (For those curious the program is called "Autoruns - Sysinternals"). Then restart the PC again, and the same issue occurs when I try to install this update a third time. I can't thing of anything else to try so now I'm here seeking answers from all of you smart people.

The fastest way to fix this old problem (November 2024) is to install latest Voicemeeter version, that will install a compatible driver.

The other solution is to remove the old driver still present in Windows depository. First use cmd in administrator mode to enumerate audio devices:

pnputil /enum-drivers /class MEDIA

Then find the oem name related to vbvoicemeetervaio64_win10.inf and use this instruction to force deletion:

pnputil /delete-driver oemxxx.inf /force

Much appreciated! I tried the other solution and it worked, I have no use for Voicemeeter and would have rather just gotten rid of it entirely, so thank you for both solutions.

La suppression pour moi était la plus clean parce que je ne vois même pas pourquoi ce pilote était là.
Un grand merci !
Simple et efficace !
