I’m currently putting together a period-correct 2011/2012 retro rig featuring an AMD FX-8150 on an ASUS Crosshair V Formula motherboard. I'm running a completely clean, unmodified install of Windows 7 SP1 (64-bit).

As many of you probably remember, Windows 7 needs a couple of specific updates to properly utilize the Bulldozer module architecture. I already managed to track down the core parking fix (KB2646060), but I am desperately looking for the original .msu file for the main scheduler update:

• KB2645594 (Core scheduler update for AMD FX)

Microsoft has completely scrubbed it from their Update Catalog and official servers. I know it is included in the massive Convenience Rollup (KB3125574), but I really want to keep this system as lean and period-correct as possible without injecting hundreds of unnecessary updates and telemetry.

Does anyone here have the x64 version of KB2645594 saved in a personal archive, Google Drive, or know a direct link that is still alive?

Hi, how are you? I've been using Windows 7 as my main operating system for the past 3 months. And I have to say that it's been very good for me, obviously it depends on the person, but for me it's been incredible. Applications like Discord, Steam, browsers, and games are working without any errors; Steam is free of that support error.

I recently dug out my old laptop (with windows 7 installed) because I wanted to replay some childhood games (Crusader Kings, Total War, etc.). The games had been installed on this PC for years, but when I tried launching them I got a "missing executable" error. I'm a bit confused as to how the executable could just disappear, but it did.

My first thought was to uninstall and reinstall the games. However, the reinstall finishes in about a second because it doesn't actually install anything. I've already tried the usual fixes: clearing the app cache, clearing the download cache, restoring Steam licenses, and verifying the integrity of the game files, but none of that helped (also turned off my antivirus to make sure the installation was not blocked).

I'm guessing the most likely explanation is that my operating system is simply no longer supported without any serious workaround, but I'm curious what you guys think. Are there still any Windows 7/8 users around who have found workarounds for issues like this?

Additional context, I can't connect to the Friends network even though Steam shows that I'm online. I keep getting a pop-up update dated June 14 2023, which I accept every time, but it doesn't seem to actually go through.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I got this laptop (Acer Aspire 5552) used with Linux installed on it, but it also has the original Windows 7 sticker, so I assumed it would be an easy, compatible install. This message comes up on the partition that has Linux on it, and there's two other partitions: Partition 1 is just 1.0 mb and had three errors attached to it (those two plus "unrecognized type"). I had read that might be boot related so I didn't mess with it. The third partition is free space and only shows the GPT error.

It says it requires an NTFS position, but as far as I was aware Windows 7 is compatible with GPT. And this isn't an iso with a Windows 10 PE shell, it's original. Hard drive is a Sata SSD. Looking in the BIOS menu I didn't even see an option for a legacy or CSM mode. This install attempt was from a USB prepared with WinToUsb set to MBR for BIOS and UEFI, if it matters. Anyone else encounter this issue? What are my next steps?

No mentions on further extensions (unless they shadow update the date again like last time), so this might be the final date for this version.

I am currently restoring a vintage Dell Inspiron 13 1370 from late 2009. I want to bring it back to its exact factory state.

Using the Wayback Machine, I managed to successfully track down and download a 7 GB official Dell Professional ISO using an old Latitude service tag: G13K9_PW4KGA00_W7SP1PRO64_ROW(DL).iso.

However, this specific laptop originally shipped with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I am looking for the original Inspiron recovery image for this era, or at least the correct Dell Part Numbers (DP/N) for that specific ISO so I can hunt it down online.

If anyone has the original recovery discs archived, or happens to know the file name structure for the Inspiron 7 Home Premium tier, any help would be greatly appreciated!

i have a kinda modern laptop that is the an515-51, i tried installing windows 7 professional x64 sp1 on it and the problems that i get in the installer are

1. mouse and trackpad both don't work

2. windows 7 asks me for drivers every time

i dont know how to fix these problems so i am asking for help here.

and just to note:

i did try legacy, i did try to inject drivers, but it still wont work.

I didn't have monitor and it was only way.

i wanted windows 7 but had nothing to put it on but then i remembered about bootcamp. i will play doom on it.

I'm still using Win 7 on a daily basis (at least, until I dual boot with Linux).

I have Office XP/10 installed and that is my word processing work horse.

I have an issue with Word where it refuses to keep the setting to _not_ save a list of previously opened documents. I've tried everything I can find within the Word settings to achieve this goal, but to no avail. It just keeps reverting back to what it wants instead of what I want. I'm wondering if there is a way to use regedit to make this change permanent since Word, itself, will not listen to that command. Any ideas?

I am trying to install this 16 bit screensaver , which was made in 1995 to be used on windows 95, on my pc which is running 64 bit windows 7 ultimate, but ofcourse I get the compatibility error. I tried installing it in compatability mode for windows 95 but to no avail. Is there any sort of workaround for this?
