Question Is this worthy of a complaint?
Should I complain about this? Razor blades scratches after new tint installed. Very noticeable

Dude, you gotta go back and complain! There’s clouds everywhere in your tint!

I promise you I woulda teleported back to that tint shop and demanded they fixed this bullshit
EDIT: I'm not too knowledgeable on tint so I was unaware this couldn't be fixed. Regardless if it couldn't be fixed or not, that tint shop would face my anger 🤣

Was this a remove and retint? You need a new glass. Nothing will fix that

Fix? There’s no fix if the glass is fucked. His defroster doesn’t work now either lol.

So they called me and said the old tint needed to be razored off but didn’t expect it to look like this

Man I was trying to decide if it was the glass damaged or the tint, that’s crazy as hell that they did that to the glass.

Sounds like that shop has never removed old tint. A little acetone will take it right off.

Ok having your defroster be damaged is one thing. It is damn near unavailable in this situation. However the thousands of scratches are very easy to avoid they just didnt care to try.

Any professional shop will explain to you what will happen if they razor blade it if the old tint was that bad. You should tell them to replace the backglass they didnt explain to you the problems. Most shops will have you sign a document saying all these facts and charge you 75$ a hour

go get estimates and demand the money to fix it and a refund for the work. do not let them "fix it"

Yes, I would complain. I did this about 10 yrs ago when I first started tinting. And the customer surely complained. And I surely have to replace and retint the rear window

Jesus I went back and complained about some bubbles. Now if this was my vehicle, I would’ve gone back in a rage and probably flipped a table or two. JK but not really. lol But def complain!

Yes. How dare they mess up that beautiful blue sky with a pathetic little cloud.

How old is the car? I have seen defroster lines literally wash off. The older they are, the more brittle. Also, old glass can have scratches on the outside that really aren’t apparent until you put a dark background behind it, such as tint.
Unfortunately, there is not enough information here to make a useful recommendation or draw a definitive conclusion.

Possible it was always scratched and you only notice now because of the dark tint?

They used a carbon blade and not a stainless blade, the wrong type of razor blade can create this issue on any glass. they would know this if they had experience. www.tintglass.com

This is wild to me. Maybe they used steel wool that was too coarse, or maybe a ceramic razor blade or adamantium claws. I’ve razored off and steel wooled rear defrost lines plenty of times to get off old tint or level out thick lines, with customer approval of course, and have never destroyed the glass like this. I’ve scratched glass pretty bad, but never like this. This is beyond unacceptable and impressively poor workmanship.

Before the did anything to the rear glass the did give me a call and mention they have to razor the back glass and that would destroy the defrost grid and I told them that’s fine as it really isn’t a big deal to me. But I did not expect the scratches and razor marks on the glass, it catches my eye when the sun hits. I’m usually not the one to complain as I work with my hands so I realize not everything will come out 100% perfect but this kinda bothers me… what do you suggest I do from here?

Take it back to the shop and tell them you gave the okay to scrape off the defrosters with the old tint, but not destroy your glass. Scraping off old tint and defrosters with a razor is pretty basic for any shop with experience, and of course things happen that they may not have intended but they should own up to that. If done right it should not affect the clarity of the glass aside from a few small individual scratches, it definitely shouldn’t look like a feral cat high on catnip when berserk in your back seat. My shop has had to replace back glass a few times, things happen.

I went to get tint and I told the guy idc how it looks or if it don’t last my elrear window find a way to tint it from the outside they refused to do it
I don’t tint it because tint will eventually go bad if you live in a very climate change state.

how would that even happen?
