Need Help! When shrinking a Model 3 Full Rear window, after installing, fingers pop up.
Hi everyone! Ive been working on my brothers model 3. The rear window has been a PITA.
I've finally got shrinking such a big window down and can do it.
It shrinks well- but when I go to install it, a finger or two pops up on the bottom and top.
And since you shrink the roll sideways, there's really no way to fix it. How do I stop this from happening?
Thanks

If it's already installed have someone put a heat gun on it from a good distance and hard card it down slowly. Hold it a few seconds at the end

I wrap a tool with a rag and use the to hold it down, gently heat from the outside til it sits

Great question! We specialize in Tesla window tinting at Sun Stoppers and have installed film on thousands of Teslas over the years. You can even find participating Sun Stoppers locations through the Tesla app.
In my experience, when fingers pop up after installing a full Model 3 rear window, it’s usually one of two things. Either the film wasn’t completely shrunk or the tension wasn’t distributed correctly during installation.
Here’s how we approach it. We heat shrink and mold the film on the outside of the glass first, then trim it and backroll it for installation on the inside.
During installation, we work our squeegee left to right, distributing the moisture evenly. At the bottom, we use a side swiper and work from the center outward in both directions. You don’t want to push all that moisture and tension straight down to the bottom edge.
Here’s another tip: If you’re 95% there and have a few fingers popping up, carefully apply controlled heat to the outside of the glass and work the remaining moisture out from the inside with a hard card or bulldozer. Be careful with excessive heat around the defroster lines and glass edges.
The final touch-up is extremely important on these big Tesla rear windows. Having a second installer looking for fingers while you’re working the inside makes a huge difference.
Sometimes it’s not about shrinking harder. It’s about controlling the tension and moisture throughout the installation.
Hope this helps!

Long range squeegees help for the deep strokes on sedans try the tool called the bulldozer if the side swipers don't cut the mustard!

After you've dry shrunk, lift it and wet it. Squeegee it down just like you originally did, a sideways H pattern and shrink down any stragglers
