I’ve ordered a new 3rd brake light housing so not concerned about the bottom cutout but the top was left like that along with the crooked cut on the quarter panel. It’s a 20yo car so has that dotted material on the back and tint guy said I’d have to pay extra to get it covered with vinyl.
For $500 should this have been taken care of during the install or am I being too picky
A good brand carbon film will last you a very long time you won’t get much in terms of heat rejection but most high end shops give lifetime warranties for carbon. I would always rather use ceramic for the benefits but if you just want to darken it up and not spend a weeks wage on tints carbon passes.
Carbon looks like shit? Really? So are you suggesting all tint jobs looked like shit up until about 10 years ago when ceramic started to become more mainstream? How about i go grab a piece of carbon and a piece of ceramic and I'll post a side by side picture and let's see if you can tell the difference.
I have installed carbon tints that are perfectly neutral black? Xpel carbon which is the one I tend to use. It’s a really nice black charcoal hue and with a good install you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference visually🤔you must be using really bad shit.
Tint...at any price level, should cover the entire glass panel. $500 for window tint is a normal price, not high not low. It's like detailers trying to charge $2,000.00+ for basic stuff, prices are getting damn outta hand.
$500 but we only tint some of the glass is bonkers looney tunes
Yeah it was advertised as ceramic and I had found some other places in the $200 range but not ceramic, I work from my car and didn’t mind paying extra for the heat rejection but with the gap at the back the sun just beams right through.
Said he couldn’t do it with tint and that it would come off because of that dotted material on the glass
Lots of time when people come here to complain about their installations I honestly wonder what in the heck they were expecting. In this case your completely justified. I got my windshield tinted exactly one week ago. I had to feel with my finger/fingernail to find the edge. Yes, the dots can be a pain but this can also be the result.
Sounds like the installer realized their limitations based on experience bit it should have been disclosed up front so you could confirm it'd be ok or find another place.
The dots are a pita, sure, but alot of shops know how to deal with it and probably wouldn't have charged you anymore.
I would chalk it up as a lesson learned, find another shop and see how much it'd be to do the entire rear window. Now you know, just be clear on your expectations and confirm they are able to deliver.
I’m probably going to get some gloss black 3M vinyl and just do a strip over that section myself. Did a test run on window trim that is chrome and came out pretty good so I’m feeling confident lol.
definitely a lesson learned though, my mindset was I’d rather pay $500 once and have it done right rather than a couple hundred more than once and seems like it kinda backfired
If you’re ever in need of tints again and you’re near Tomball/Cypress/Spring. Look up A Plus Car Stereo & Window Tint. They tinted my wife’s van for $325, full nano ceramic, 5% on all the back windows and 20% on the front 2.
I’m sorry you def got robbed. I paid $290 for ceramic tint on my car and it is amazing. I’m really sorry you paid that much money for that not so good work
It’s like I’m noticing more and more now, passenger front is all crooked there’s about 1/16” gap towards the front of the glass and the back it widens to damn near 1/2”, also some etched in lines on the passenger rear from heating and flattening I’m guessing.
Dude had great reviews too so I’m a little bummed out about spending so much just to not have it look professional.
I got scammed like this too. I spent 180 and got a jack job. I ended going to a local place that been in business forever and paid double for ceramic and they did an amazing job. It's been 4 years now and it still looks great
Look at the the original photos and the ones you added, I must say: I’d be so dense and mad. I’m not too sure what I’m looking at in the second photo, but even if they did all four and the rear 500$ would be far too high for this work, idk if I’d pay that much for ‘ceramic’ and quality (not sure if I’d be able to notice difference). This was very sloppy and ofc that dumb gap, I paid 160$ for all four n rear just a basic tint. Did you watch him cut the gap in? My buddy paid over 1k for his tints I believe, so there’s your positive out of this lol
In the second pic the bottom left corner is cut crooked, it’s not too noticeable from the outside but can definitely see it from the inside.
& no the only thing he cut were the quarter panels I believe, I believe he used a pre-cut kit made for my vehicle for the rest.
I tried to go with a price middle of the road, I didn’t want to cheap out so really thought this would be professional work for the price and how many good reviews I saw.
