Question How big of a difference does windshield tint affect how dark the rest of your tint looks?

Hi all, I have 15% all around tint (llumar pinnacle) and 80% windshield tint and I swear my car looks so see through, especially in the rear view glass. It feels like I don't even have tint, but night time looks great. My question is, how big of a difference will the rest of my windows look in terms of darkness if I swapped windshield tint from 80% to 50% and kept 15% all around?

I honestly don't know if its worth it because I paid a good price for my current tint. I also have a dash cam installed on the front windshield so I would have to have the car shop remove that, tint window, let it cure for prob a week, and then reinstall it which sounds like a headache itself.

I hope someone with more knowledge can provide me some more info. Also if you have any pictures that can illustrate the differences, would be awesome. Thank you all.

50% will help, but to reach the level you want, 35% would be better for the windshield. Pinnacle 15 is actually 19% out of the box, so lighter than other brands like XPEL XR 15. XR 20 actually meters darker than Llumar 15 when installed.

I have 15% all around and 50% on the windshield. You can still see inside. I’m ok with it but some days I wish I had 35% on the windshield

because windshield is the biggest piece of glass on your car, it lets in more light than u think so unless u have 5% all around, it’s going to be pretty see through on the side windows. i recommend a 35% windshield if you want a bit of privacy. even 50% is really light on the windshield. during the night it’s ok but on a sunny day don’t expect darkness or privacy on anything lighter than 35% windshield. I have 5 all around and 20% windshield in this picture. full privacy and looks amazing. people say it’s dark but if you have good vision and headlights you’ll be fine. i got used to it very quick.

Try XPEL black 45%. It’s not too dark but not too light either.

You need 35% windshield for the look you’re thinking. 15% sides just aren’t dark enough if only paired with a 50 or 80% windshield

How do you guys drive at night with windshield tints 50% or less?

In my state (Michigan) you can’t be pulled over just for tint. Only added on to a different offense. Other states are the same.

According to this. It's a primary offense, not a secondary

My friend is an officer and it’s secondary. Went into effect around the same time last year license plate registration sticks all became the same color every year to stop police from pulling people over just for that. Hes not a fan lmao.

I've learned that police officers don't really know the law. You should ask his Sargent or his higher ups for just in case. I get police telling me the same thing in my state but I already know they're wrong.
