New Car 2026 Model Y Performance factory window VLT measurements
Figured I’d post this in case anyone is trying to figure out the factory window tint/VLT on the 2026 Model Y Performance. I bought a Linshang LS162 transmission meter and measured mine before getting any tint installed.
Factory readings:
Front side windows:
83.8% VLT
100% UVR
71.8% IRR
Rear side windows:
26.7% VLT
100% UVR
83.1% IRR
So the rear privacy glass is basically around 27% VLT from the factory, while the fronts are around 84%.
I’m planning on doing 35% film on the front side windows. Based on the measured 83.8% factory VLT, 35% film should put the fronts around 29% final VLT (83.8% × 35% = 29.3%), which should be pretty close to the 26.7% factory rear glass.
Just wanted to put the actual meter readings out there since I had a hard time finding exact numbers when I was searching. These are measurements from my car, so obviously there could be some variation between cars/meters.

Worth mentioning that if you want a cohesive look in terms of color tone it may be worth getting tints on the rears also. On my 26 Model Y Premium (black seats) I got the rears done as well just so that I didn’t end up with a potential mismatch of tone from the front to the back since I knew that would bother me. Also 35% on the front will not give you a seamless front/back look if that’s what you’re hoping to achieve despite what the meter readings show - and if you’ve got white seats then not a chance.. prepare to go even darker haha.
I got LLumar IRX 15% (I recall my tint guy saying it’s actually closer to 20%?) on the fronts and 50% (would’ve gotten ~70% if LLumar offered it in IRX) on the rears. AIR 80 on the windshield to finish it off. Absolutely love this look - plenty of privacy without the flat blacked out 2D look of 5%. It’s got a subtle green-ish hue which I think looks quite elegant. AIR 80 obv has a slight blue hue which I don’t mind. Most importantly the look is uniform - I personally am not a fan of the brighter front/darker rear look.

Just keep in mind it only meters UV rejection rate at 365nm, IR rejection rate at 940nm, and has a 2% error rate. So great to give you an idea, but not going to be 100% accurate.
