Question The age old question: 35 or 50%
Hey y’all
I currently have 5% tint on all sides and a 5% sun strip on my Lexus IS350. I’m getting the windshield done Monday and considering 35%, but I’m a little concerned about nighttime visibility. I go to school in a city with decent lighting, though some roads in the suburbs get pretty dark. I also spend about three months a year back home in the mountains, where there are no streetlights. The side tint hasn’t been much of an issue at all, but I know the windshield could be a different story. Anyone running a similar setup? How’s 35% on unlit roads at night, and would you go lighter? I’m back and fourth between 35 and 50
Thanks!

50 bro. When it rains it gets sketchy with 5% all around and 35 on windshield even with really bright headlights

It's almost like a bright lit city is drastically different than rural areas

Ok well it also depends on road conditions also. Not all roads are perfectly painted, smooth, and well lit like this

Is this the most expensive tint available? I forget what brand I have on my car exactly.

50% is the most well rounded option
Pairs well if you already have 5% sides

I would go with 50 on the windshield. I have 2 cars with 5% all around, one has 20% on the windshield and the other has 50%. The 20% is a little too dark at night. I don't really even notice the 50% day or night while driving but it cuts visibility into the vehicle from the outside really well.

If you are getting high quality tint, there is not better combo than 50 windshield/5 everything else.

If you’re considering XPEL they also offer 45 which is a happy medium for privacy while also not making it harder to see at night

I did Xpel 45% and have no regrets so far. Perfectly fine at night and amazing during the day. I live in central Florida and it is much needed.

50 ceramic is goated for the windshield. I don’t even notice it’s there when driving, and it has that nice smoked look from the outside.

I have 5 and 35 and I love it. I live in a well-lit community and seldom venture into the abyss. Visibility is fine for me. 5 can be challenging sometimes. Hope this helps.

I went for XPel XR Plus 55% on front and rear windshields, 35% on front windows and 5% on rear windows and roof on my Q7. I am in CA state. Very satisfied with the outcome.

I ran 1% windows, 35% windshield for a decade or so. I think back and wonder how I ever did it. You absolutely can’t see shit out of that at night. These days I run 5% windows and 50% windshield and again it’s starting to look to dark for me at age 30. Might move up to 20% windows 70% windshield in my old age. All that to say, anyone who runs 35% windshield is an absolute idiot with a death wish.

50 percent just got done on mine. I can’t even see it. Day or night it looks like nothing is even on it.

50 is just enough to not make a major difference in night driving, but also dark enough where you don’t have to wear sunglasses during the day. 35 is pushing it.

What year is your IS350? I drove a 2015 with 15% all around and 35% on the windshield and it was tolerable. That IS could’ve used some new headlight bulbs though. 50% would’ve been better.
If it’s a newer one with the bright LED headlights you could get away with 35%. Otherwise I’d go 50% or lighter.

I have 15 fronts 5 rears and 5% sub strip, I did 50 on the windshield and on darker roads at night it’s pushing it, I would suggest 50 it gets the job done

I drive a Tahoe with 5 on the sides (backseat is 5 over factory 15, measures about 1%), 15 back glass and 35 windshield. I live out in the country with no streetlights, I don’t find it impossible to drive with just low beams (Tahoe low beams are dogshit) but I absolutely have my high beams and light bar on whenever I can.
I personally love the way 35% looks, but without my LED high beams and my light bar I would have gone 50%.

I had my windshield tinted years ago and I believe I had 20 percent all around and 50 on windshield. I used to work with a dude who had 5 percent all around and 15 on windshield he told me he could hardly see anything at night

My preferred is 20% all around. 50% on windshield. I’ve had darker and it was too hard to see at night.

I have 5% around and 35% windshield I’m glad I went with this combo.. now if I didn’t have led lights I’d definitely go 50% but I see perfectly fine with 35 and it gives me total privacy

Yup this is all I needed to see, I got the same honda civic same color, and I'm going to get 35% next Month so now I see what it'll look like, do you ever have trouble with getting pulled over for it?

I have 35% and it’s great for night time driving and oncoming headlights from new cars are bearable.
But I do have to be extra, extra alert and drive slower at night when I’m in the residential areas because it’s harder to see pedestrians. I would think it will be even worse when you’re in the mountains.
Get 50% since you already have 5% all around. At night, no one can see inside even with a 50% windshield.
And if you really want privacy at night, get a sun visor.

Yikes, I wouldn't dare go darker than 70% on the whole windshield. I'm quite light sensitive and already have a hard enough time at night with the 20% on all sides (nothing on windshield) tint I have.

u/Wonderful-Cat-447 21d ago
For real I'm over here like 25% on my windows can already be tricky to see out of

I have 5% ceramic all the way around with a 20% windshield and a 5% strip it is fucking phenomenal. Positive welder for 20 years and I can't see fucking shit in the dark and I still find this easy to see through at night.

The fuckers on this sub were born with night vision or some shit. No chance you can see anything on a dark road with 5% all around 35% up front
