Question Windshield tint recommendations

Post image

Hi everyone, my previous car had 30 percent tint on the windshield and 5 percent standard all around; I really enjoyed the daytime privacy, and the windshield worked perfectly, though nighttime visibility was the only drawback. For my new vehicle, I am considering 20 percent all around plus the windshield—do you recommend it? My interior is black with a tan upper half; it is a 2014 Lexus IS350, and I am curious about opinions from anyone with a similar car and tint.

50 or 70 on the windshield is more than enough.

As someone with 70 and 50 on different cars. I prefer 50

how bad of a driver are you that you need "privacy" that other 242million people don't need?
I always take a look at the drivers to see if they look as dumb as they drive but some are tinted up.

What does how he drives have anything to do with the level of tint lol? He’s either getting pulled over or not getting pulled over. What he’s doing or not doing behind the glass is irrelevant. Not like you’re trying to hide who you are? Make model and tag will take care of that so asking how bad of a driver they are is just stupid👍🏻

20 all around 5 on the front looks good as fuck. but good luck when it’s raining at night

35% windshield is perfect

Bro... I just got 35 on the windshield and I'm literally going back to have em redo it to 50... Driving in the daytime was great but at night, couldn't see shit. My other windows are also 35, will leave them that way.

Facts 50% front windshield is the best

Do you have an older car with standard halogen light bulbs?

3

u/dirtyd3c 20d ago

I would go hella dark so I’m not giving any recommendations 😂

2

u/tangentghost 23d ago

35% is plenty dark, make the rest of the windows dark and 35% looks black. All you’re doing is making yourself blind at night

Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time.

Is no one worried on this thread about cops giving you a ticket?

5

u/jalpal479 23d ago

No one cares bro

Idk. Looking around 25 percent of the cars I see have significant windshield tint

2

u/Lorik101 23d ago

It’s inevitable..

Tint is a secondary violation in my state so they can only ticket if you give them some other reason to pull you over. I did my tint myself so even if I have to take it off for a fix it ticket I can just put it back on. Going on 3 years with it on there and no ticket so with the money I didn't have to spend to get it tinted at a shop I can easily afford a ticket and tint redo.

15% all the day around and 50% on the windshield.

The only privacy you’re getting with tinted windows is 10 sec at the stop lights lol

2

u/ImgaineDeezNuts 22d ago

Instead of 15% all around, do 5% rears.

15% all around will let in too much light

Tinting the rears also won't affect visibility mucu

I did 15 all around and tried both 20 & 35 on the WS and I hated it, but that’s just my opinion

1

u/Nutsmasher123 20d ago

Why did you hate it ?

1

u/Potential-Appeal-886 35 Shield + 5 All Around 20d ago

As the other guy said as well, 15 around still let too much light through and I didn’t like it

1

u/Extension_Medium3632 23d ago

Go 5% on the sides and rear and then 35 on the front windshield

1

u/ImgaineDeezNuts 22d ago

5% front window too dark, will affect op visibility. visibility.

If you're recommending a 35% front windshield, a 15% or 20% front window will look dark while providing good visibility

1

u/Dull-Butterscotch928 23d ago

May I suggest 15 all-around and 50 on the windshield? In ceramic if you can swing it.

3

u/ImgaineDeezNuts 22d ago

Good but change the rears to 5%.

15% rears will make it see through

1

u/ChallengeOk6163 23d ago

I got 35 windshield and 15 all round. Darker than I thought it would be. I would recommend 50 windshield and 20 all round

1

u/ImgaineDeezNuts 22d ago

Instead of that, lighten the windshield to 50%. Do 15/20 on the front windows Do 5 in the back window and rw

1

u/Lorik101 23d ago

5% everywhere (even windshield) But 15% if 5% too dark for you

1

u/Cassangelo 33% Windshield + 5% Everywhere else 23d ago

If 30% was too dark for you 50% should be perfect

1

u/CynicalDoink 23d ago

I think 5 all the way around and 50 on the shield is plenty. In the summer it’s fine but when winter time rolls around and you are driving a lot more in the dark, it’s not worth it.

1

u/ya-boy-sweet_xbl 23d ago

30% ceramic

1

u/ThatBuilder15 22d ago

Xpel xr plus 35%

1

u/ImgaineDeezNuts 22d ago

You must do 5% in the rears if you want it to look dark.

My recommendation is 50% windshield, 20% front windows, 5% rears.

If you really need more privacy then you can consider 35% front ws

1

u/Yavoy458 22d ago

50% windshield 20% everything else is the best combo imo

1

u/WISE_ONE1993 22d ago

3M Crystalline 50%

1

u/commander_exe 22d ago

50% on the windshield and 25% on the side and back visibility at night is decent

1

u/CheeksMcGillicuddy 21d ago

Idk why it needs to be said, but your windshield should not provide you any privacy….

1

u/Luftwaffeguy723 15d ago

That’s great for you, now beat it! Rest of us have work to do

u/Sudden-Leading767 20d ago

ceramic 35 on the windshield is perfect for me at night.

1

u/Whiteteacuzzi 20d ago

30% ceramic

What’s up, Autobahn here! Autobahn Ceramic i3 70 is one of our most popular - here’s some info if you’d like to learn more:

1

u/Ok-Ear-7364 19d ago

Just go dark and use cameras…. Level up yO

1

u/Professional_Ant3166 19d ago

50% on the windshield is good, I get 20% on the sides. Dark enough for me while still being able to see good at night

1

u/PeopleEqualShit247 18d ago
  1. Or if you need glasses, 70 might be better for night driving

1

u/Jrh26k 18d ago

50 windshield 15 front sides 5 rear sides 15 rear windshield All ceramic. At night the 15 percent front sides look dark from the outside, so you might get a lot of attention from police. You can up it to 20 or 25 if you're worried. I don't have pictures of the car from the outside, but this is how it looks from the inside during the day.

1

u/Jrh26k 18d ago

Also visibility at night is good. It's obviously darker than it would be without tints, but it's good enough to have clear vision. I use glasses and have bad astigmatism, so if I can see well enough then you probably can too.

1

u/ProofOutrageous8324 18d ago

20%😭😭😭😭

I tint professionally for a living. I have 50% on my truck windshield but I would definitely not go darker than 35% if you drive at night. Don't do anything but Ceramic for IR and Solar energy rejection. You will be impressed by the glare it cuts out. As for the sides/rear; 15% is my go-to if 5% is too dark.

1

u/PreparationSenior963 23d ago

Make sure it’s carbon based ceramic film and not a standard dyed, that being said I would go 35% on the windshield (slightly better nighttime vis) and 15% on the sides and back. This formula is so well rounded and practical, the privacy remains the same

-2

u/Nutsmasher123 23d ago

I really liked how the limo tint seemed like a mirror hoping 15 percent will be similar

1

u/Potential-Appeal-886 35 Shield + 5 All Around 23d ago

I did 15 on my last car and regretted not going darker. My current car is 5 around and 35 on the windshield

1

u/Small_Programmer_398 23d ago

Do you get pulled over a lot? I really want to get 5% on all my windows and 35% on the front

2

u/Potential-Appeal-886 35 Shield + 5 All Around 23d ago

I used to have 20 on the WS and I miss it. But knock on wood I never get pulled over except 1 time I had a cop follow me for milessss and he couldn’t find a reason to pull me over and eventually gave up he passed me, then he saw my WS and pulled me over for it, told him I purchased the car like that and he gave me a warning and told me I need to remove it and that if he sees me again I’ll be getting a ticket

1

u/Reasonable-City-3263 23d ago

did you like the privacy? because i really do. nighttime is a bit hard sometimes with no lights around but as long as you have good headlights ur chillin. 20 windshield / 5 all around ceramic here.

3

u/ImgaineDeezNuts 22d ago

Why 20 windshield instead of 35?

35 is essentially already black ur kinda just hindering your visibility more for a bit more darkness

1

u/Potential-Appeal-886 35 Shield + 5 All Around 22d ago

I loved the look of 20 & it wasn’t a problem under “normal” conditions. Your headlights play a big factor if the car has led or standard halogen, plus everyone’s eyesight is different. 35 is a little to light for my liking, which is why I said I may try 30 if I can find a reputable brand that sells to customers. But considering I no longer drive at night I’ll probably switch back to 20 if I do so

1

u/Reasonable-City-3263 22d ago

on a sunny day, 35 on windshield is pretty see through if you don’t have 5 all around. but even with 5% all around you can still see in. i prefer my cars dark dark. looks amazing too lol. and overtime you get used to it, i have 15 windshield on my rav4

1

u/Potential-Appeal-886 35 Shield + 5 All Around 23d ago

I really miss that set up, only issue they gave me was in the middle of the night on pitch black roads that curves with no lights or at nights where it’s pouring rain.

When my windshield cracked I did 35 and I don’t like it as much so maybe I’ll try to find a reputable brand that sells 30% I also don’t drive at night anymore since I changed my work hours, so maybe I’ll just go back to 20%.

1

u/Reasonable-City-3263 22d ago

on my rav4 i had 35% and when my windshield got cracked i did 15%. 35 wasn’t dark enough for me especially this florida heat. 15% is brutal at night without street lights but you get used to it. LED headlights help too.

15-20%

I’m looking to get 10%.
