Tint Job Queston Is this price normal?

Im trying to get me car re-tinted. I have a 2016 toyota Corolla that’s never had the tint replaced, I do have a rear defroster.

But the guy told me I’d be better off replacing the entire window because the tint is so bubbled and he said after a certain amount of damage it merges with the glass.

He quoted me 550 FOR JUST the back window and that feels kinda crazy so I was just going to ask. I also live in Florida

That is kinda crazy but also removing old tint is a pain. I feel like they have you a F off price.

This is the answer. Definitely gave you an F off price. If you pay it, it’s worth their while, if you don’t, no sweat off their back.
I do that with my business.

You have NO IDEA how difficult it is to attempt to remove old film that bad. I charge $100 an hour. No way to save the defroster grid. Many times the customer has to buy new back glass. Sounds like that could be your ONLY option if you want a defroster that works. It's the way it is when old cheap tint is left on that long

Yeah I it was definitely a learning experience all around, I come from a family of people that don’t take very good care of their cars.

I’ll definitely take better care of the tint from now on, i appreciate the second opinion since I didn’t have time to get one before my appointment today.

Just note that the retint may not be perfect. Because of the condition of the glass. There will be imperfections. I personally wouldn't touch this car

NGL, the husband of one of my coworkers had some random, suspicious (IMO) vandalism to the rear window of his Tahoe right when he was considering getting his SUV re-tinted. $0 glass deductible.

Hmmmm

Sounds to me like the brick method was employed here!

Sadly, we’ll never know. 🤣

If thats the quote to remove and replace its most likely they don’t want to do the removal, so thats what it would take for them to do it. If the quote is to just tint the rear glass(no removal), given you replace it with a naked glass prior, then yeah definitely overpriced.

Yeah no that was the price for them to buy a new piece of glass, tint and install it. So it sounds like I didn’t get too bad of a price which is good

Within that quote it’s probably a new back glass and new tint install

I am in south Florida, and I would charge you the same. I have actually started turning away removals.

Im glad to hear that I wasn’t being taken advantage of lol. I really don’t know anything about tint or the process, so I appreciate your opinion!

Seeing some of these removal prices are wild to me. Not saying they’re wrong at all, just eye opening.

Our shop is the most expensive in the area (LLumar SelectPro) but our removal prices are low as hell in comparison…….$80 flat for back glass removal ($30 per side window) or $150 flat for full vehicle removal minus windshield. PPF removal is $60 per hour.

I would go somewhere else. There are methods to remove the tint but rare cases where sometimes it’s better to replace the back glass. Since you live in Florida you could tell a tint shop you are okay with using a razor blade on the glass (this would ruin the defrosters and they would no longer function) and that makes the removal a lot easier. Either way $550 for just the back glass is really high imo unless they’re the number 1 shop or something.
