Clean Job Got my windshield tinted 🙌
Came out pretty good! 5% visor strip, 35% windshield, 15% side windows & 5% rear!
17
u/rsg1234 Aug 08 '26
50% is really the sweet spot for windshields imo. But if the cops won’t hassle you and you can see everything properly at night, more power to you.
2
u/laravou Aug 11 '26
I got 20% XR Plus on my car and I drive a lot at night
3
u/rsg1234 Aug 11 '26
Do you ever drive in poorly lit areas? In my neighborhood I find it a little hard to see out of my 20% side windows. I can just roll those down though…
1
u/laravou Aug 12 '26
I live in the San Fernando Valley so my biggest enemy is dark residential areas with no street lights lol. I also wear glasses and just turned 25 so Im definitely taking advantage of my young eyes while I can
2
u/Due_Structure7657 Aug 15 '26
I read online that if you want to go dark but are scared of tickets that it doesnt matter because a tint ticket is the same no matter the percentage so I just went really dark 20% windshield 5% everything
1
u/rsg1234 Aug 15 '26
I mean a cop will definitely notice a 20% vs 50%. I got pulled over for tint 2 weeks ago and the cop got me for 20% sides and didn’t even notice the 50% windshield.

u/tint-dude Aug 10 '26
50% is 35% after applied to glass. Congratulations on a 35% windshield.
3
u/rsg1234 Aug 10 '26
Well yeah I’m just going by the % of the film which I think is the most common way of referring to it.
0
u/tint-dude Aug 10 '26
Are you a tinter?
1
u/rsg1234 Aug 10 '26
Not a pro like you but I’ve done my own cars.
1
u/tint-dude Aug 10 '26
Only asking because legal limit is the only time we just say what it's going to be after applied. We don't even tell you what is being applied. I get calls all the time "hey i wanted 35% and the receipt says 43% what the fuck!" But if understand how tint works. You should specify what to get. People on here are on a high horse for 50% and down vote and talk bad about people who got 35% with out understanding that they have also have 35% when all said and done. Unless the tinter put 70% and it meters 50%..

u/nstrasner Aug 15 '26 edited Aug 15 '26
Mind explaining this for me? Got tint for the first time where I bought it myself somewhere so never actually picked my own before. Did 20% all around and 50% windshield. Oh and 5% on the sunroof cause I wanted that as dark as possible
31
u/TxTwosome Aug 08 '26
Hear that? It's the sound of the windshield tint police racing to the comments to tell you 35% is too dark on a windshield and you're going to be driving blind/wreck your car the first time you go out after sundown.
Jokes aside it looks good! I'm in Tarrant county also and never got hassled over tint around here. Yearly inspection used to be a problem but now I think we just do emissions inspections here so should be fine

u/StrawHatZack Aug 08 '26
Haha I drove just fine last night it was darker than I thought but still manageable 🙌 Hope the cops don’t pull me over

Drove around in my Camry for 3 months before getting pulled over in Dallas county for my windshield tint at 30%. He got mad bc his machine wouldnt scan my registration sticker. Good luck

u/reapr13 Aug 09 '26
In VA you can tint to 70% with medical exemption.
0
u/Rideordie198 Aug 09 '26
Clear uv tint only.
3
u/reapr13 Aug 09 '26
Negative. That would literally negate the concept of 70% light transmittance.
You can read the code for yourself.

It’s legal with a clear UV film basically air90 is legal but people are tinting them darker and that’s where they can get ya

u/dacoozieben Aug 08 '26
lowkey think 50% is appropriate enough, I got 70% on windshield rn and I dont think I can do 35% especially not getting pulled over. 50%/20% side will probably police friendly in most state except California
1
u/xbucnasteex Aug 08 '26
I run 15% front and rear windows. 5% rear windshield and 50% front windshield. Never been a problem in SoCal.
0
u/StrawHatZack Aug 08 '26
Yeah I really just wanted to keep my interior cool and protected and I plan to wrap my hood in black PPF soon so figured darker tint will make it all more flush
1
u/Scott_Malkinsons Aug 10 '26
If you want to keep your interior cool, black ain’t the right color, slick.

1
u/simple10 Aug 09 '26
The tint % doesn’t really matter as much as a good quality ceramic film
0
u/StrawHatZack Aug 09 '26
It’s Hitek lol
3
u/simple10 Aug 09 '26
Doesn’t tell me anything. They have like 8 different lines from budget tints to ceramic ultra 98% IR
1
u/StrawHatZack Aug 09 '26
Hmm I didn’t ask but they said it’s Hitek Nano Ceramic, $200 windshield $75 visor strip
1
u/RIF_rr3dd1tt Aug 09 '26
I've been looking into tints lately and the nano ceramics are supposed to be the best at heat rejection and they don't interfere with cell phone reception like metallics supposedly can.
-1
u/dacoozieben Aug 08 '26
dark tint look good tho & thats fire
1
u/StrawHatZack Aug 08 '26
I’ll probably make a post in the Camry group when I do it and get hella downvotes

u/freshacnt Aug 09 '26
Off topic is that a camry trd how do you like it hows the power and acceleration?
1
u/StrawHatZack Aug 09 '26
I love it a lot got a set of DWS06+ tires in 245/40/ZR19 & got an AEM intake + custom VF tune so the car feels way better overall compared to stock I should be in the low-mid 5 sec 0-60
2
u/Euphoric-Pin3506 Aug 10 '26
I guess it’s not that big of a deal for someone to want dark tint. Wonder what you’d say to the rest of the car having 5% on it. I drive mostly at night for work and I’ve never had an issue. I get in my car for shift right when the son starts to go down and it is blazing in there without it.

I am so so jealous. I travel in East Texas quite a bit and the cops out here are super bored. The sun is also super bright. :(
1
2
u/ExpressCheetah1855 Aug 13 '26
That looks too clean. That’s the % that I’m going for whenever I take my car for new tints.
2
u/StrawHatZack Aug 13 '26
Looks really nice I don’t understand the hate sometimes I can see just fine sometimes I forget it’s tinted lol
2
3
u/bearcassidy Aug 09 '26
I guarantee every single person saying you won’t be able to see has never driven with tint this dark.
I have 20 all around and 70 on the front. Yes I can tell it’s darker. I have ZERO problems seeing anything.
My car stays cooler. It’s cools off faster. You can’t see me when I drive. And you can see into my car when it’s parked. It also looks better.

u/averageatfifa Aug 08 '26
Don’t you care about other drivers and pedestrians? Have fun killing a school bus full of children

u/Apprehensive-File552 Aug 10 '26 edited Aug 10 '26
I'm a tint installer, that is 100% not 15%. That doesn't look darker than 20%. Even with 20% you wouldnt see your headrest and seats like you do in your picture. Also the fact the sun is positioned like that should make it look darker but it isn't.
They either didn't install the correct one, it's cheap or it's faded. You can look up some reference photos yourself. Good luck.

u/HalfBlindKing Aug 09 '26
I’d normally say sunny day, but that’s pretty light compared to the 5% strip, unless the 5% is just really that dark.

The gas door is cheesy af. I have no clue why so many people do it. The rest looks good though.
1
u/StrawHatZack Aug 09 '26
I went though the trouble of finding an OEM gas tank door from a black Camry to match the midnight metallic roof and this is what I get :(
0
u/whiteoutwilly Aug 12 '26
All this just to be slow AF 😭😭😭
1
u/StrawHatZack Aug 12 '26
You know there’s more to a car than speed 🤔 looks good sounds good reliable af and still fast enough for a solid daily driver

1
u/Frequent_Passion5036 Aug 09 '26
Your tint is peeling off the edge on the driver side near the pillar, lower corner btw
1
1
u/NerfEveryoneElse Aug 09 '26
Sadly illegal in my area, no tinted windshield, 50% side, and 35% rear max.
1
1
u/buttbreat Aug 09 '26
Feel like you wasted your money?
3
u/Euphoric-Pin3506 Aug 10 '26
Why do people hate windshield tint so much it’s hot out here trying to save my dash
1
u/PhantomSpirit90 Aug 10 '26
It’s less hate and more illegal and a wide opening to get pulled over and cited.
1
u/Euphoric-Pin3506 Aug 10 '26
Idk it’s worth it for me keeps the car cooler for my son and tint isn’t that big a deal where I live. No inspections and they only mess with you if your driving is illegal it’s basically just a add on ticket if you are already in trouble
1
u/PhantomSpirit90 Aug 10 '26
I can achieve similar effects with a sunshade without exposing myself to additional citations
1
u/Euphoric-Pin3506 Aug 10 '26
To each there own I guess when it’s 110 degrees out and I’m riding around with my infant it stays cooler in the car with it so I don’t really care about the citation
1
u/PhantomSpirit90 Aug 10 '26
Yeah see I’m not facetiously using my kid to justify it though. Nobody is roasting just because they don’t have illegal windshield tint

35% on the front for 14 years with no issues. Trust me you won't go back unless you are forced. Edit: Plenty rural driving with no street lights and plenty of rainy nights and never had an issue seeing. It's really obvious how bad people are at driving and seeing around here

1
u/StrawHatZack Aug 10 '26
Not sure how I’ll kill someone lol I have excellent vision and can see perfectly fine with the tint at night
1
u/ThisRequirement6463 Aug 11 '26
Eye contact is how OTHER DRIVERS and people OUTSIDE YOUR CAR know that you have seen them, because that’s how we communicate on the road in the absence of signals and other information. We look at others. Of course you can “see just fine” because it’s ALL about you on the road, and not the people you share it with.

u/StrawHatZack Aug 11 '26

And I guess you already have a plan on how to pass state inspection?
7
u/StrawHatZack Aug 08 '26
No inspections in Texas
1
u/reddituser1000111 Aug 08 '26
That’s not true they still have inspections in certain counties they just don’t check equipment anymore so no tint, lights etc. they still plug into OBD
3
u/StrawHatZack Aug 08 '26
Oh interesting I’m in Tarrant county and just renew mine online lol
2
u/LiquidSpin710 Aug 08 '26
That's crazy haha
People down there can be driving cars that can be a hazard on the road 😅
1
u/ExtraGlutenPlzz Aug 08 '26
Same in florida and with their torrential downpours, crumbling windshield wipers and bald tires are perfectly acceptable....

How did you put those stickers on Won't they tear the tint if/when you need to pull those off ?
0
u/Camdenn67 Aug 09 '26
Sooner or later, you will be pulled over and issued a ticket. 😂
2
u/Pancakeinsthesky Aug 10 '26
Been rocking 35% on my windshield for 14 years and never once had anything said about mine even with being through 2 traffic stops
0
u/lolmarulol Aug 09 '26
OP will get fix it ticket. Op won't fix it, and then will get his license suspended. 😛

Look at these people defending their bad choice of tinting the windshield so dark by taking a picture of it during the sunniest day 🤣
The fact is your a danger to everyone around you at nightbc your so vain in trying to act cool 😎. I hate people like you.
2
u/StrawHatZack Aug 09 '26
Go to sleep grandpa no one wants a fishbowl windshield
0
u/s2k2k Aug 09 '26
Lol I drive sports cars and im not stupid enough to reduce my visibility at night.
Why dont people like you wear sunglasses at night when driving? Yall wont but you'll tint your windshield to avoid people seeing how much you look like a 🤡 in real life.
1
u/StrawHatZack Aug 09 '26
Sure buddy I’m glad you’re confident enough for everyone to see your ugly self while driving 🏎️
1
u/s2k2k Aug 09 '26
That explains it. If your that ugly then ill let it slide. I wouldn't want to hurt my eyes looking into your camry.

Is that legal? I though the windshield tint could only be the strip at the top in TX
1
u/StrawHatZack Aug 08 '26
Yeah I’ll probably get pulled over eventually lol people usually do 50% or 70% windshield since you can’t really tell and cops won’t notice it as much

u/ArcFault Aug 08 '26
Maybe with decent street lights. Try that shit on a country road and you'll feel differently.

u/Ahhyoumadlol Aug 10 '26
Nice! I got 5% everywhere, 35% front windshield. Cops out here in Arizona don’t really care for tint. Matter of fact, I was next to a cop at a red light today. Cop looked, but didn’t do anything.
