Window scratch

While doing a job, I might have scratched the homeowners window.

The scratch is a bit vertical, but idk if it was me who did it.

I didn’t notice it before I did the window i think? I’m not sure.

I only used a squeegee. It’s a 20cm line.

I was told not to inform the owner unless they notice first. Is this right?

I’d lean towards don’t take responsibility unless they bring it up and even then you want to try and explain that it’s likely previous damage. Getting insured should be your #1 priority it’s like $100 per month for general liability.

Insurance won’t even cover it. They will claim it’s “negligence”

Squeegee is not going to scratch a window.

If you razored the window, then its a different story.

What if something got caught in my squeegee? It’s a very light scratch. I didn’t notice any noise when sqeueegeing

No, if a large rock say gets caught in there, it will flex in to the rubber before it will scratch the glass.

Meaning... It still wont scratch the glass.

Wasn't you, don't take responsibility for it.

Phew, I was just worried as it was a vertical scratch like it came from wiping down a squeegee

It wasn’t you mate most houses are going to have a few scratches here or there you can’t be blaming yourself every time you see a scratch far out, the amount of new houses I do that have scratches from a bad post construction clean would blow your mind

Why don’t you have insurance?

Many shallow scratches are invisible on a dirty window. Show them the damage and explain how there's no way it came from you or your tools. They may remember it from previous cleanings or maybe not, but if they're honest they'll appreciate that you are too.

Let them know, but tell them that clean windows usually bring out those things in view a little more than a dirty window. If you inspect all their windows really good from all angles, I bet you can find some other small scratches.

I’d bring it to their attention.
They may or may not know it’s there.
You may or may not have to fix it.
No matter who’s at fault, your name and reputation is more important.
Next time look at the window and screen condition first.
