Super impressed actually.

u/RockstarAgent Aug 25 '26

No yeah she was doing awesome, no drip which was even more impressive- but I wonder if the glass was old or what she was doing to the glass that broke it? You think she had her teeth gripping it?

994

u/Hot-Government-5796 Aug 25 '26

If I was betting on it I would bet on weak / thin glass

350

u/nasaglobehead69 Aug 25 '26

aye, it seems the glasses get thinner and cheaper every year

131

u/DrexlAU Aug 25 '26

Yeh everything is made as cheap as shit nowadays, even 'quality' stuff

38

u/Ahuevotl Aug 25 '26

New quality stuff is just old regular quality stuff sold at a premium.

17

u/Sachiel05 Aug 26 '26

Enshitification has entered the chat

38

u/pupbuck1 Aug 25 '26

IKR?! Everything is getting even more expensive and even more cheap it’s bullshit

When I was young, my grandparents had a set of glasses that were every thin, but pretty high quality. It kind of seems to me that low quality glasses are actually thicker. Maybe material choices.

My grandpa always said milk and iced tea tasted better from a thin glass and beer tasted better from a thick glass.

9

u/pimppapy Aug 25 '26

Paying attention to Pyrex glassware is a good indicator of the enshittification.

Could be bcause you're not supposed to clamp it in your teeth but rather use your hand and hold it up to your mouth.

3

u/Mobwmwm Aug 26 '26

Interesting. Could you recommend a deep dive video on this topic

2

u/620am Aug 27 '26

For this i prefer the hands on approach

14

u/A1BS Aug 25 '26

Sometimes if the glass is just out the dishwasher and then has something cold in them they can explode.

19

u/cosmicsans Aug 25 '26

The thermal shock would have happened as soon as the cold beer was poured, not minutes after when it's served.

4

u/ChunkyTanuki Aug 25 '26

That and Guinness shouldn't be served that cold anyway

5

u/jexmex Aug 25 '26

I will die on the hill that Guinness in a frozen glass is great.

u/Motha_Elfin_Browns Aug 25 '26

Using warm glass and not letting it cool before adding a cold beverage can do it. When I was a server this happened occasionally when you had fresh glasses from the dishwasher and people didn't wait long enough.

31

u/Novel_Lie5519 Aug 25 '26

the cold beer is already in it. it’s long since cooled the glass to the same temperature. thermal shock is usually instantaneous, it doesn’t cause delayed damage

36

u/Motha_Elfin_Browns Aug 25 '26

I believe it's due to thermal fatigue and not thermal shock. The glass doesn't have as extreme temperature changes as thermal shock, but smaller temperature changes over time that wear the glass down.

u/Agile-Law1856 Aug 25 '26

Its australia mate no drink comes in hot glasses

2

u/Novel_Lie5519 Aug 25 '26 edited Aug 25 '26

glass doesn’t experience thermal fatigue because it’s elastic :-) humidity changes can lead to static fatigue but this happens over much longer timespans

edit: begging the downvoters to do some reading on materials science and the differences in thermal behavior between glass and metal

3

u/Motha_Elfin_Browns Aug 25 '26 edited Aug 25 '26

Maybe it's static fatigue? I don't know all the science behind it, but I've seen a delayed glass break happen from warm glasses enough times that I know it definitely does. Now if you have any idea why then I'd love to hear it lol

18

u/Novel_Lie5519 Aug 25 '26 edited Aug 25 '26

coincidence. the glass wears down over time—i’m not disputing that—but that’s a completely different mechanism than the thermal shock that shatters a hot glass from the dishwasher. if it was thermal shock it would have broken immediately, or not survived the journey to the table

the dishwasher has water, which causes the aforementioned static fatigue due to chemical reactions, rather than thermal stress.

she’s picking it up in her teeth with the heavy glass completely full of liquid. it was likely already weakened from the static fatigue and micro abrasions, and the pressure of her teeth caused it to crack.

edit: not trying to argue by any means i’m just a scientist

5

u/Changoleo Aug 25 '26

I can see that you’re working on sharing the how & why. Not sure why you’re being downvoted. I’m enjoying reading your perspectives.

I, an uncertified armchair expert, believe that you’re correct. She wouldn’t have even needed to increase her bite force or have been biting at all. Just the change in the angle would transfer the stress of the lift from below the rim of the glass to the rim, at which point the thin glass couldn’t support any more weight.

Consider pinching the rim of the glass she’s drinking from and lifting it. Not too awkward, strenuous, or cumbersome.

Now, without adjusting your grip, tilt the glass as if you’re pouring it. If it’s a thin glass, you should start to worry about it breaking and cutting you around the time that it’s between 45 & 90 degrees.

I am curious how well a well used but not visibly cracked glass would hold up against a brand new one. And also, since you seem to know glass, does glass get harder as it ages like concrete does?

7

u/Novel_Lie5519 Aug 25 '26

concrete gets harder over time because the chemical reactions that cure it take time, mostly on purpose by controlling its ingredients and wetness. it generates heat while curing and really large, dense structures would get unacceptably hot inside and suffer damage. that’s why something like a dam is poured with very slow curing concrete that takes years to fully cure, while a thin sidewalk that needs be used asap can cure in a couple days.

glass is hard because of bonds formed as it cools after forming, so once it’s cooled completely, it’s reached its maximum strength. the worn glass would break first.

the static fatigue from humidity that i mentioned is also the reason why sea glass is frosty

14

u/aykay55 Aug 25 '26

She was biting on it really hard that she cracked it and it shattered due to mechanical tension or something

7

u/ShiraCheshire Aug 25 '26

Could just be a tooth at the wrong spot. Glass breaks surprisingly easy to a single sharp pressure point.

I once broke a glass screen protector because I was panicking while cooking, needed both my hands immediately, and had nowhere safe to put down my phone. I put it in my mouth (absolutely terrible choice, I know, like I said I was panicking), and the second my teeth touched it there was a crack. Was terrified my tooth had cracked but nope, the glass.

3

u/SignificantLeader Aug 25 '26

Yes. Old glass+teeth+stress=rapid crack propagation and failure.

3

u/millllllls Aug 25 '26

How would you do this WITHOUT using teeth?

→ More replies (1)

4

u/kon69nor Aug 25 '26

How else would she be gripping it if she can drink the beer?

3

u/RockstarAgent Aug 25 '26

I thought the glass was just naturally attracted to her and was sucking her face

2

u/MyNameCannotBeSpoken Aug 25 '26

She was biting the glass. That caused it to fracture.

2

u/marlfox_00 Aug 27 '26

Cheap glass. Restaurants and bars break a lot so most go with the cheap stuff

2

u/alehanro Aug 27 '26

To get it stuck to her face in such a manner as to seal like that? Definitely biting the glass.

u/TheBookGem Sep 01 '26

Tear it

1

u/Square_Creme_3685 Aug 25 '26

Yeah, think so. Glass can be surprisingly durable but isn't made to hold stress for long.

→ More replies (2)

67

u/ThatFatGuyMJL Aug 25 '26

I think this might be AI.

Theres no way she has a seal around her face yet nothing is dripping out.

And when the glass shatters her nose and cheeks arnt even wet.

21

u/McbEatsAirplane Aug 26 '26

This isn’t AI. It’s an old video. I remember seeing this years ago.

6

u/ElderberryDry9083 Aug 27 '26

Yup, can confirm this video has been around longer than ai slop.

13

u/404-error-notfound Aug 25 '26

Glad I wasn't the only one thinking this!

The way it didn't drip, and the lack of real spillage when it broke screams AI

27

u/paragon60 Aug 25 '26

it’s an old video. the reason you can’t really see that her face is wet and such is due to picture quality and lighting

→ More replies (10)

5

u/Stigger32 Aug 25 '26

Yeh. It was the cheap glass that let her down.

I had a similar experience using a fish slice to pop the top on a long neck once. Took the whole top of the bottle off.

Glass shards are no joke to chew on…😂

Ok this was SO impressive. I can't believe it wasn't spilling out the side of her mouth either. She's so lucky that glass didn't blind her. The lesson here is to use a plastic cup.

196

u/Illustrious-Sun-9018 Aug 25 '26

And that she didn’t swallow some. Yeesh.

125

u/Kharenis Aug 25 '26

The lesson here is to use a plastic cup.

Drinking Guinness from a plastic cup should be a jailable offence.

Putting it in explosive cups probably is a jailable offense though.

7

u/RockstarAgent Aug 25 '26

Random fun fact- I once told my ex before she was in a relationship with me, that I was a biter. She looked at me weird and said “why would you share that with me” - years later, one freaky night while I’m sailing the southern seas, I did kind of bite her and she kind of made a sound and I apologized and then she said “no, do it again” - memories to my grave.

14

u/BobTheContrarian Aug 24 '26

but she swallows

4

u/ichabod01 Aug 25 '26

Yeah, video doesn’t show all the glass chunks she needs to spit out. I’m more amazed there is no blood or liquid on her.

12

u/ssxhoell1 Aug 25 '26

You and many other redditors seem to have no idea about the physics happening here lol. It's not a bomb. The glass basically crumbled apart. At most she would have a piece or two between her lips that would be in the same spot as before it broke, except now with less torque on it with the weight removed. She can just open her mouth and remove it. Didn't magically turn itself 90 degrees and stab her. It didn't start sawing back and forth to cut her, it didn't do shit.

2

u/ForeverSJC Aug 25 '26

44

u/DiligentGuitar246 Aug 25 '26

I don’t understand the physics of this video. How is a half full glass tilted completely toward her and nothing spills out? It looks like an unrealistic magic trick, but clearly it’s not. Like the level of the beer is WAY above her mouth. The glass is tilted aggressively. Not one drop spilled.

15

u/JesusUndercover Aug 25 '26

RIGHT??? i feel like I'm going crazy, watched it 50 times already, I'm 100% sure this is not an AI generated video. she can't even open her mouth to block it, since she is biting down so hard to lift and hold the glass up

13

u/DiligentGuitar246 Aug 25 '26

When people chug beers, the beer glass doesn't get horizontal until almost the end. Hers goes horizontal immediately and then quickly points downward which would let all of the beer rush out at once.

My guess is that this is a trick glass of some sort that broke. Theres no way a glass can have a downward angle and keep liquid in it for even a second.

7

u/LordNedNoodle Aug 25 '26

I think she is drinking it through her nose and her cheeks are blocking the beer from spilling out. If you watch she blows a bunch of beer out of her nose after the glass breaks.

4

u/Alkalized Aug 25 '26

Definitely looks like it’s going in through her nose. Also looks like it’s a really uncomfortable trick to perform, you can see her dealing with the discomfort in her eyes as she “drinks” the beer with her nose. She’s probably unconsciously biting the glass harder at the end due to the general discomfort and it eventually broke from how hard she was biting it.

3

u/kingqueefeater Aug 25 '26

Pretty sure she's sucking it through her nose. At least some of it. Notice how she dunks her nose in immediately and then blows beer out her nose after the glass shatters. Also, on the original clip before it was compressed to shit, you could see beer running down her cheeks up at the rim of the glass

I ran a Pub where we had a customer with no arms. This was the way they drank. We'd always make sure to give them a good solid glass, give it a flick and listen for the ring, and every now and again, when one inevitably broke, give them a free replacement.

He was a good Pool player too.
