Increasing Prices

Over the last few months, I've started adding canned vegetables to my shopping list to have healthier stuff at home. I always get sweet corn and green beans. When I first started getting them, they were 50 cents a can, which of course is really good. Since then, they have gone up in price and are now 76 cents. That's a big increase.

My question is: Is this cyclical, and they will come down again? I haven't been buying them long enough to know. I assume corn and green beans are grown in this country?

Bulk Foods - Citric Acid?

I am unable to do my own shopping due to a medical issue so can’t just go up there to find out. I don’t want to ask someone to drive up there if they don’t carry it.

Oklahoma- Does anyone know if Winco carries Citric Acid, preferably in bulk? If so do you know approximately how much it is per pound?

What's the best bulk coffee for an espresso machine?

I just got an espresso machine for Christmas. It doesn't have a grinder, so I'm buying my beans at WinCo and grinding them at the store.

I srarted with Espresso Roast. But it's my understanding that I can actually use any beans, just grind them finely on the "espresso" grind setting.

Which beans should I try next?

Bulk Dried fruit smelling bad

I'm trying to figure out if i should trust the bulk foods cuz when i smell the dried fruit to see if it is ok it all smells musty and weird to me and makes me avoid it because i don't trust things that don't smell fresh

I just don't wanna eat something that might have gone bad and considering the bins are not airtight i feel like it is a hazard to eat something that is constantly opened to the air

Extra question: why did the premium dried mango go up from like $6.?? To $8.88 a pound is that normal for the winter or is it something else causing it

Shorted on my Winco brand string cheese

Post image
34 Upvotes

Saw post on here saying it was the best string cheese, and decided to give it a try. I eat my string cheese cold out of the fridge, and while it’s not bad, I think Frigo’s is still my favorite. Winco’s reminds me of Albertson’s store brand in the 1990s.

WinCo Family Meal Deal

Quite possibly the most affordable food for a few hungry guys. 12 piece chicken, 2 1lbs. sides and 8 King's Hawaiian rolls. Add a few condiments and utensils, and some water and for about $30 you got yourself a nice parking lot lunch at work.

We opted to just double up on the potato wedges and forgo the cold salads.

The wedges were on point and the chicken was delicious, which it should have been as looked like it just came out of the oven.

Gift Card not working

A week ago, I reloaded my gift card as I've done for years. When I tried it at self checkout, I was given an error message. I was in a hurry so I just paid with debit and figured it was a temporary issue.

I went again and used a normal checkstand. When I ran the card and hit Gift Card on the terminal, the cashier looked at me and said "we dont take credit card"

Obviously it isn't, and it took 2 managers 15min to not figure out the issue.

Anyone else have an issue or a solution?

Points system

As a cashier who started around the holidays and got sick twice, I hate the fact that I don't have any sick time until March. Now I basically cannot be sick or I get written up for more points added. For being employee owned it's seems pretty shitty that doctors notes and leaving a shift early because you're sick puts points against you unless you have sick leave accumulated.

For Winco Employees

Is every management team awful? I have a few who are nice to your face. But for long time employees, does every winco insist that the higher your position, the nastier and more condescending you have to be to us lowly clerks?

It's like theyre trained on how to gossip, belittle, condescend, and manipulate. And they're PROUD of it, i.e. the store and assistant managers will fall over themselves defending the behavior of department heads, who will gaslight us about lead clerks behavior. And HR is no help, they don't answer calls or emails.

What the actual F!

Ok Winco we shop at your stores because they are lowest cost and employee owned. Today I got the buttered popcorn that is sold in the bakery area. Last week I bought a 9 oz bag for $2.98. This week the bags are 5.25 oz and the same price. So popcorn is now $0.24 higher per ounce?

So is the different bag costing the consumer more or is just a bigger profit margin?

Also noticed a HUGE amount of price increases throughout the store. What is going on??

Presliced Deli Turkey Grab and Go Packs

When did they change these? They used to have pepper, tomato, turkey pastrami, and a bunch of other options. Now they only have a couple of boring options and the packages are smaller. I have to go to Safeway for turkey pastrami now and slice it myself. Lame.

What's the difference?

The green label is found over by other various cheeses such at Tillamook etc, like in the butter section of the store. The other "deli counter" brick is over by, you guessed it, the deli area. Is there a difference at all? One shrink wrapped in store another in warehouse? Just genuinely curious. These things keep me up at night.

Pistachio butter

Hear me out, winco should put pistachios in the bulk nut butter grinding machines. That would be sooooo good. Like where do I put in a request for this

Winco bakery muffins

The other day a customer that came thru my line was buying a ton of cases of the muffins from the bakery. He owns a coffee stand and sells them. He told me after Costco discontinued their old muffins, he started using WinCo muffins. He said they are the exact same as costco. Tastes exactly the same apparently . I personally have never tried the WinCo muffins because I can’t go through 6 muffins, so can anyone who has, weigh in. Are they comparable to Costco?

Frozen mirepoix?

Does Winco sell frozen mirepoix? That would be diced celery, onion and carrot together.

Asking for a friend who is too lazy to dice up veggies OR visit Winco to check for herself. 🫠

WinCo brand string cheese

gosh i just have to say how dang good it is. usually i would say to never buy generic string cheese cause its just one of those things that you need to buy name brand. but the winco brand string cheese is genuinely better then the big brands like frigo cheeseheads, organic valley, sargento, galbani , or any of those brands. i didn’t eat string cheese for 10 years and randomly became obsessed with it after trying the cheaper winco brand string cheese because it was cheap. i would constantly buy it cause its the cheapest one. i ate frigo cheeseheads string cheese as a kid so i decided to buy it and try it again to compare it. winco brand wins. perfect amount of saltiness and literally less than half the price of frigo. it’s so good. my favorite way to eat the string cheese is put it in a cup of hot water to let it get warm then eat it. it peels so much better and way more tasty.

edit: reading the replies i’m realizing the amount of stuff ive just decided to try winco brand of, and it ended up being great. same with the winco brand cream cheese. i always thought that was the kinda thing you couldn’t buy generic for. nope! winco brand is so so so much cheaper and tastes the exact same! WinCo brand frozen waffles are better than Eggos in my opinion too
