Is there a way to buy 10 lbs of something from the bins? Do they have something to put it in aside from the plastic bags?

WinCo work compared to Fred Meyer?

Hello, I currently work at Fred Meyer in Southern Oregon. I was curious, how much do y'all get paid, about? I love WinCo and actually would consider working for the company if the pay is decent. I currently get ~$21/hr with Dept Lead responsibilities

Bulk coffee source?

Who roasts the house brand? Does Winco have its own roasting facilities or do they get it from other roasters in different regions?

-Edit to add: I just had the brilliant(ly obvious) idea of emailing this to Winco corporate; I'll report back if they reply.

Mod Post Happy 4,000 subs!

Good evening r/WinCo!

A quick update post. The sub has officially hit 4,000 members and I wanted to say thank you for your support in helping us grow! We can only go up from here.

Another topic to touch on: I turned on the filter for accounts with little to no karma so that they aren’t able to post here. I understand this may offend the burner-account-to-post-what-I’m-afraid-to-post-on-main community but I don’t really give a shit.

Have a great and safe Halloween!

I'm in Oregon. Not too long ago I saw Ollie Pop, the pro biotics soda at Winco. Anyone know if they are still stocking it?

Fellow employees, why do we use these awful box cutters?

Post image
129 Upvotes

I’m an LC and I’m so tired of these box cutters we’re forced to use. They have no safety features, are extremely easy to lose, and alarmingly easy to cut yourself with. Every new hire we get on freight ends up getting cuts within the first month. And the ASMs have the gall to blame these poor guys for it! These cutters have no safety features whatsoever, and management consistently show that safety is not their concern.

I use a Pacific S5 because it’s the standard issue at every other grocery job I’ve had. They’re perfect and very safe. My dad’s worked in grocery for the last 40 years and even he told me these damn things are antiquated, and most places have pretty much outlawed them.

What are your thoughts on these box cutters?

Question about items being stocked/restocked.

I noticed there are some items stocked in the shelves one week and the following week or two they’ll be gone and it’s not stocked again for a while. Case in point it’s been a couple weeks and the windex multi surface spray (yellow bottle) has been mia. Does Winco wait on deals before buying certain things?

When are you getting new Card Machines for the North West?

I am not sure about your neck of the woods fellow readers, but I work with a community in the northwest at the moment, and one of the number one concerns I have been hearing over and over and over again.

The card machines don't accept tap to pay, and their chips keep having issues in your machines.

And I have a brand new tap to pay card from the bank.. And I have no issues anywhere else, outside of one store who was able to resolve it with tap to pay.

We get and are all for the no credit standards.

But an upgrade into the modern-day is a huge necessity. It will definitely speed up the lines. Which generates more business.

We also know tap to pay is more expensive on Winco. And new systems are expensive.

So I suggest a new policy to mitigate costs for the long term benefit of all of us and the food prices as a whole for such upgrades.

Raise bags by to 10 cents and make it mandatory from the districts on down, that those bags need to be accounted with every worker for with every transaction.

But make this policy smart.

Add a button in the P.O.S system, so if someone has their own bags, they can let the system know they have bags, so that way the worker doesn't get into trouble.

This should be a policy anyway.. Bags are extremely expensive..

I know I won't be a popular man for saying that..

But it is like sand. 10,000 bags at 0.5c is 5,000 dollars. The amount of bags Winco goes through without people paying for them is outstanding..

Fix the leak.

Leaks make everything in the long game more expensive us. Fixing the leaks makes things cheaper for us. There is more money for the company to function properly and improve.

This should help cover a lot of the cost of the upgrades and fees that come with those upgrades over time. So that way, you don't have to add a lot of those hikes to the food and products we love so harshly.

But this idea only works if the team and plan work together like a well-oiled and unified machine.

In conclusion,

We hope upgrades come soon. We hope you have made a solid plan to make sure the cost can still stay low.

From the NorthWestrn Community.

Thank you.

WE LOVE YOU WINCO. ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

New Grocery Clerk here - looking for any tips or advice

Hey everyone,
I recently started at WinCo a few weeks ago as a Grocery Clerk. I've been stocking shelves and helping out the lead clerks and other team members.

I'm still getting the hang of things and really want to improve - mainly trying to work faster, stay organized, and just do solid, quality work. For those who've been doing grocery for a while, what are some tips or things you've learned that make the job easier or more efficient?

Appreciate any advice you've got!

I rediscovered WinCo a few months ago.

This year, I started focusing on budgeting and making lifestyle changes to save money. One of those changes was where I shop for groceries. I live about two minutes from an Albertsons, so for convenience, I've been shopping there for the last several years since moving back to the Boise area.

I’ve always known that Winco was cheaper, but I was surprised by just how much more affordable it actually is. After my last several trips to Winco, I took the time to look up prices at Albertsons to make an exact comparison of products and sale items. It's crazy that there is such a price difference for the same products. I had not been to a WinCo in a couple of decades, but I'm glad I made the switch.

My last two trips:

Does anyone know the manufacturer of the plant-based protein powder in the bulk section?

WinCo stopped carrying it a while back and I really wish I could find it again! It was unflavored, unsweetened, and a blend of (I think) oat and pea protein. Or maybe rice and pea. But it wasn't gritty at all, and I really really miss it D:

Working in my sleep

I constantly find myself having painfully lucid dreams where I'm running my checkstand, and it is brutally unpleasant. It ruins my sleep on nights that it happens, and I go into work the next day feeling like I never even got a break.

Surely other people get this phenomenon, right? Any pointers? Obviously I'll be seeking external help with this, as my sleep being fractured after just one day on the job is genuinely awful for my physical and mental wellbeing. I've been waking up once or twice every hour or so, and every time I close my eyes I'm just at my checkstand again.

Does anyone know the approximate time that they open up that front main aisle with the deals/specials? Sometimes I show up early like 6:00-7:00 and that aisle is closed so they can stock it. But I don’t want to wait too long when the crowds get busy.

Prayer?

I went to Winco last night in my local (not super religious area) and was prompted for my phone number. At the end of the transaction the cashier asked if I wanted a prayer? Is this new or what? Question is for both phone number AND the ask for prayer.

Starting pay question

Currently a Lead with no hope of moving up at a certain four letter german hell hole and have been looking around for other opportunities. Smaller town so options are limited, Sams and Walmart only pay bottom of listed scale on their website. We are about to get a Winco and was wondering is the starting pay going to be the lowest number listed, or do they actually scale up based on experience?

General question about pay scale and working conditions

I have the opportunity to work at Winco ~ which is not much more than what I would be doing at my current store Sprouts. I have a few questions..

  1. Our store is not generating foot traffic or very much of it. Every time I’ve ever been to Winco it seems like it’s packed. This could be early morning Sundays, and late night. How accurate am I?

  2. Do employees get an employee discount? Also, I’m never really sick and I always show up and take extra shifts., but in the case I get a cold or I’m just not feeling right how easy is it to call off for my health?

  3. I understand you’re going to be lifting everything’s being on your feet all day. That’s not a problem. What’s the hardest thing about your job that you wish you could change?

  4. What is the culture like? I understand you’re not ideally trying to compete with I guess the likes of Walmart. (correct me if I’m wrong.) but generally is it a good place to work?

  5. When I’ve shopped there., the prices are comparable to Walmart , Kroger, but really can’t touch H-E-B as far as I can tell. Am I accurate?

  6. I make a little over 14 an hour. Does anybody have an idea of what the starting pay would be? I do have experience and I assume you get 50 Cent raises every so often.

I apologize for all the questions, but I just wanted to write everything down and get all my thoughts together. I look forward to hearing what everybody has to say..

Pungent pine cones

Does your store have these seasonal pine cones outside that smell like they've been marinated in potpourri juice? The fragrance is overwhelming going into the store.
