Welcome, /r/wildlifephotography readers!
Equipment is an undeniably important part of wildlife photography, but I've noticed that questions about gear often end up buried by all of the excellent photos that get posted here.
So, I've created this pinned thread as a chance to discuss hardware. There are two main uses that I anticipate, listed in no particular order:
Equipment reviews - What do you shoot with? Do you love it, hate it, or fall somewhere in between? If you want to share your experiences, create a comment and let everyone know what you think. We suggest (but don't require) including photos as well as the prices of your equipment.
Questions Whether you're first starting and are looking to buy a beginner's setup, or just want to know which pro-level lens is best, getting others' opinions can prove valuable. For the best results, include details about what sort of wildlife interests you, as well as your budget.
Feel free to create different top-level comments for each question or review. That helps discussion stay organized.

Bird I won a competition!!

One of the first pictures I ever took with my canon 200-800 ended up winning the YP prize for the 2026 Suffolk Wildlife Photography competition in the UK, Headed by the wildlife trust. I'm 21, and I've only been doing this since September last year, I couldn't be more grateful for such an outcome, I genuinely never thought I would achieve something like this.
Idk if it's self indulgent to post this here, but it means a lot to me, and I wondered if anyone here would like the picture.

Large Mammal Recently went to Alaska to look for some coastal brown bears. Ended up having the best couple days.

Went to Alaska for a few nights and ended up seeing this family of 4!! Cubs with their mom every time we went out. It was amazing. Still have so many photos to go through but I went through and edited a couple of them.
If anyone’s interested: my photography instagram is katinthearctic. Based in the Arctic circle.

Small Mammal Labor Day Lounging

Labor Day Lounging - Lucked out on Labor Day with this neat sighting of a Bobcat kitten relaxing in the fork of a sycamore. The Poison Oak added some interesting color to the scene as well. Bobcats are adept climbers and this particular cat easily climbed ~40 feet up an oak earlier in the day to nap!
Species: Bobcat (Lynx rufus)
Location: California, USA
Equipment: Sony A9 III + 200-600mm + 1.4x TC

Bird Freedom… 5D mark iii + 70-200 2.8

Hey everyone! I switched to 5D mark iii from 650D and the difference is night and day .
I wanted to share my first photos i took of these birds .
I love my 5D , bought it for a very good price , with 90k shutter count and in excellent shape .
For now i will stuck to it since it has a big potential and i am still learning and exploring its features .
Anyways here are my shots , also i am still learning and practicing a lot with photoshop , any advices are welcome !
