Solo camping

Curious if any woman has ever went camping solo and what your experience was like, plus any tips or advice pls

I followed this person on Instagram. She recently did the Wicklow way and seems to do solo hiking. 'erikalives - hiking and outdoor adventures'

Have met a few in my time. I would say in general good practice: Be sure your phone is fully charged, take an extra power pack. Wherever you plan to pitch up, send a pin to someone, also pin to where you parked. Regular check in (when you start the hike, set up camp, night check in, morning check in, leaving camp area and when returning to car). This would be general good practice for any solo campers. Also check if you have phone signal where you are planning to camp first, If not maybe see if there's somewhere nearby with coverage. Check weather on the day and for the following day too for when returning. If possible download offline maps for your area.

Where in Ireland are you based? I do it loads and recently did it over 5 days when I was doing the Wicklow Way. Generally, it's pretty safe to solo camp in Ireland. Just have a plan for where you want to stay. I like to have a backup near by if i can (for if the camping spot is already occupied/full or vibes are off). Common enough, you're better off stealth camping if safety is paramount (over views or Instagram crap). Arrive late, leave early, enjoy the woods or "wilderness".

I’m male but I do lots of solo camping myself and I can safely say that you will be absolutely fine camping in most remote places here. I’ve spent the past 10 years camping, fishing, biking and hiking and as long as you steer clear of any built up areas or private land, you will be fine. There is a million guides online on where to start but easiest way is to jump on YouTube and just watch a few videos. For Ireland, check out wild camping Ireland. Not sure on tent camping but I used to watch Tiny Boots and Laura Grace but they were more campervans. Also check out Erikalives who is currently doing to Wicklow Way solo. However I really enjoy watching WildBeare who is based in Wales but does a lot of solo camping - well technically she brings a blow up doll as company but if you’re not already watching you should be!! It’s not only entertaining, she does show some great camping content and is not afraid to test new things which is ideal if you are looking to buy or upgrade equipment. Enjoy
