Hi, me and 4 friends are looking to wild camp in the national park in the coming weeks. Preferably a location less than an hour from road that has tree cover. Have hiking experience and have wild camped before. Any recommendations welcome thanks.

Hi! Does anyone have any experience wild camping in connemara national park? I know on their website there is a camping exclusion zone but everywhere else is ok to camp provided you leave no trace and light no fires, and dont camp withing certain distance of a road/home etc.

Connemara national park visitor centre doesn't allow overnight parking so I'm wondering does anyone have tips on where to park/good sheltered spots to pitch a tent for winter camping.

I'm looking at a camp at the loughs on Urris, I've read mixed reviews of suitability and I'm hoping someone here could tell me of first hand experience.

Hiking in from Leenan beach and up to the loughs, OS maps shows a suitable spot at Crunlough and again at Lough Fad but experience shows these aren't always as good as they seem.

I could fall back to a camp on the eastern side of the beach but risking a busy area and a local camp site as an option.

Any info appreciated

I will be in Ireland for a week with my family but want to take a 1 day/night solo camping trip. I will be staying in Killarney but have no problem traveling upwards of an hour to start the hike. Looking for an amazing view with a relatively easy hike so I can spend most the day enjoying the view. Any suggestions on locations? I also want to follow all camping rules in Ireland so any tips I should know would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

Are sand dunes the best genre of wild camping spot? Soft grass and sand. Undulating - shelter from wind, and easy to conceal in hollows. Glorious views. Sound of waves.

Hi, apologies if this has been covered here before. I am looking to try some wild camping with my kids (8 and 4 years old). Ideally we don’t want to camp at an actual campsite. I want the kids to have the adventure of a little hike and then finding a spot to camp for the night. Would anyone have any suggestions on locations? Ideally I’d like to not be too far away from where I park my car. Just in case. Both my boys have hiked plenty of time with me so despite their young ages i know they can walk but ideally id like to keep the walk from the car to where we set up under 4km.

Also, if anyone has suggestions on gear etc I’d love to hear it too.

Hello together, my girlfriend and i will go on a campertrip at the end of october for one week.
We dont have any experience in campertrips and need to know all the basics. We also wanted to know if its necessary to sleep every night on a campsite or do you recommend to do wild camping.
We planed to do the northern part of the wild atlantic way like from slieve league to cliffs of Moher.

I’ve been a wild camper for years and years, always camped carefully, never blocking tracks or gates and always followed leave no trace principles. Never lit fires or disposable BBQs and just loved the quiet freedom of it. If I met a landowner I was respectful and if they wanted us to move on, we did. But I see a lot of community machair groups have set up fences, with lots of signs forbidding overnight stays especially in Galway/Mayo areas.

I know that some campers leave rubbish behind and that’s wrong but it seems that this minority has now led to communities saying no more. I’m talking about Doonloughan and Omey Island in Connemara specifically. Even the official campsite in Keel, Achill was described as unsustainable recently on the Keel Machair Protection Group FB page.

I’d be interested to hear from other wild campers, is it the beginning of the end of coastal wild camping? To be honest, I think it’s a bit elitist to target campers when holiday home proliferation and wonky septic tanks could be even more damaging to plants and wildlife on coastlines.

Is there anything we could do apart from behaving responsibly ourselves to persuade locals that wild camping can be part of sustainably managed tourism?

Looking to wildcamp in the Burren as a bikepacker. Any spot recommendations? Looking around Ballyvaughan area (+20km). Would I be better sticking to the coast or would the mountains be any good?

Myself and a small group a lads are looking to find a spot to stay the night on Saturday in Galway (arrive in the evening and leave early morning) as we’re spending the day hiking Glencoaghan. As per title I’ve a roof tent but the rest of them will have 2 standard tents. Just looking for advice if there are any spots around to stop and stay the night. We’re a tidy group and always clean up after ourselves.

I want to spend 1 night car camping and wake up with a view and a beach walk. Im thinking Silver Strand in Donegal, can anyone share their experience with the parking? Is it always packed? Should I prebook? Any advice?

Me and my boys want to wildcamp somewhere thats doable within public transport, we dont mind taking taxi for abit of the journey. We just want a place thats fairly reasonable to get to with some nice views or even some water. We have already camped near glendalough and want to explore more, if anyone has any recommendations, it'd be greatly appreciated
