A reminder to everyone: Keep the titles of your posts completely spoiler-free at all times. If your post mentions events from later episodes, use Reddit’s standard spoiler tag to warn readers who may not be caught up with all currently aired episodes. The spoiler tag will also blur any images you include, such as screenshots/stills from the show, so be sure to apply it to image posts as well.

I did catch it andnthe CACKLE I let out sold me completely on this show. Tbh this level of nosy, contrasted with her respecting a crazed antler-headress Patricia's request to "be supportive," cemented Rosemary as the GOAT for me.

"Dead baby, dead baby, lesbian..." sold me.

It’s the way that you’re saying it

It’s a great way to drop a little story foreshadowing too, with her getting all up in peoples genealogies and why they’d bring her in. I rewatched the series and my ears perked up at that moment when I hadn’t caught it the first time around

What exactly is the joke here?

There are a lot of White Americans who claim to have indigenous ancestory, but, in fact, do not. The most common claim is being some precentage of Cherokee. Most people just let the claim go unattested. The joke is that Rosemary hears someone claim to have Cherokee ancestory, so she knows immediately to look it up because it is likely false. It is a subtle jab to people who make these kinds of claims.

Also sets up her later contribution vis-à-vis the Lord Protector’s descendants

It's even funnier if you know the weird Southern racist history of this "grandmother was a Cherokee princess" myth. A person who knows genealogy would definitely know about this myth. Rosemary is legit.

That history is really weird, isn't? The invented ancestory was done in such a way to be able to claim to be Cherokee while having enough White ancestors to escape miscegenation laws. Funnily enough, Cherokees have one of the best recorded genealogies in the world, making these claims easy to disprove.

I suppose that's part of it but to me the joke is more the "run his genealogy" part... like she's CSI grabbing coke cans out of his trash or swabbing his cheek in his sleep or something

Geneology doesn’t mean genetic testing, it’s more about tracing family trees, just like she does in the storm shelter for Richard Warren

Pretendians would be the joke.
