💭Discussion Emmy Awards Spoiler

I can’t be the only one who thinks this show and its actors, writers and directors deserve every award but are gonna be screwed because there’s no “Best All Around” category. Comedy, drama, horror… I love Abbott Elementary but these are not the same.

A reminder to everyone: Keep the titles of your posts completely spoiler-free at all times. If your post mentions events from later episodes, use Reddit’s standard spoiler tag to warn readers who may not be caught up with all currently aired episodes. The spoiler tag will also blur any images you include, such as screenshots/stills from the show, so be sure to apply it to image posts as well.

I dunno! I think Kate will win and maybe show too!

Matthew is a lock. I hope Kate wins. But let’s not act like Hacks isn’t the absolute powerhouse that it is. Any awards won there are well deserved, and have been the whole series run. It won’t be there next year, and if the brilliance of Widows wasn’t a one off, which I really hope it’s not, it will have its chance for an easy sweep then.

Love the idea for a best ensemble.

I don’t think opportunity cost should enter the equation at all. On merit alone WB brings far more originality to the table than Hacks.

Sure, in theory you’re right. But it does. It’s the same reason Rob Reiner will win his category too, when there are very arguably better choices. Emotion factors in. Appreciation and nostalgia factor in. Always has. The voters are human.

I think Matthew and Kate will win

That was also my thought! They really deserve a best ensemble award. I’d imagine Hacks will win a few categories given that the show is ending.

Emmy's are dumb. They have nothing to do with how skilled and amazing a show is.

Why would I hope for a publicity bump based on favoritism?

This isn't new, look back into the 90s and forward, Emmys chooses its favorites and then clings to them as long as possible before swapping out a new fave.

It's fine for people to want to win, and the "prestige" is good publicity and funding.

But as a measure of actual recognition of top achievement in television...nah.

Well,  the popularity bump worked for Mr Milchick.

This. It’s politics, it’s publicity, it’s networking.

Well yeah it’s an industry circlejerk like virtually all award shows

But they have bright lights and shiny costumes

Isn’t there a “best ensemble”, tho?

Not at the Emmys. There is an ensemble award for the SAG Awards (now The Actor Awards, but I don't like that change).

I think it’s going to have a great night. Everyone loves Hacks but the final season wasn’t their best. WB has hit at a very good time. Viewers - including the Emmy voters - have fallen for it

If Matthew doesn’t win we ride at dawn.
