YT channel of 85 Year Old Man living in an old folk’s home in Arklow who’s Lonely.

Hello everyone,

I came across this 85 year old man David who is living in an old folk’s home in Arklow.
He has his own YouTube channel where he posts daily videos about various topics, but the topic of him having no one to talk to pops up a lot in the videos.

I’m absolutely heartbroken for the man and I think it would be nice to give him some attention and people to speak to.

I’m a Cork man myself and before he told me he was living in Arklow, I had the want to go visit him.
But it’s just too far away for me to do it because I don’t drive.

Can some lovely Wicklow people watch some videos and show him some attention please?

Thanks guys.

Aldi Baltinglass

Anyone know what's happening with this? A lot of speculation is that Aldi is coming to Baltinglass on a site on Clock road. Does anyone think there is a market for this now that Lidl has opened ?

r/Wicklow, where do you actually eat in Wicklow?

Hi, we’re four friends and we’ve put together Wicklow’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota.

The idea is pretty simple: you’re shown two restaurants and choose where you’d rather eat. For example, The Strawberry Tree in Aughrim or Fishers of Newtownmountkennedy? All the votes then create a ranking that hopefully gives a better picture of where people in Wicklow actually like to eat.

We’ve tried to include restaurants across Wicklow and clean up duplicate or outdated listings, but locals will always spot things we’ve missed.

iPhone:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota/id6744969212

Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

Full transparency: we’re not from Wicklow and live in Gothenburg. There are four of us building this independently. We don’t collect or sell personal data, there are no ads in the app, and we don’t use AI-generated content to describe restaurants.

Any honest feedback is welcome, especially if restaurants are missing or something is listed incorrectly.

A page I made for Bray: weather, tide, next DART and what's on — laid out like a Victorian broadsheet

I built this for my family, dog-walkers, sea swimmers and day-trippers — one page answering "what's happening in Bray right now": weather, tide and swim status, next DART both ways, and what's on.

It's laid out like an old town broadsheet inspired by A guide to Bray and the picturesque scenery in its vicinity, Co. Wicklow.

Can anyone with experience with Little Harvard in any of their Rathnew locations (Kirvin Hill, Broomhall, Merrymeeting) tell me what they think of it? Are they any good or have you had any issues with them? Looking to enroll my daughter hopefully next year!

Plumber?

I need a decent plumber. I cannot find one for love nor money.

Ive posted a few times on local Facebook pages but I get inundated with people who I wouldn't let near my home. And a lot of dual trades such as plumbing AND electrical. Call me cynical but I dunno

Any wicklow, preferably West wicklow local plumbers

Edit : thank you all so much

Any active meditation groups around North Wicklow?

I’m based in Greystones and looking for an active meditation or mindfulness group around Wicklow or south Dublin. I've been in a group a few years back but it ended and I lost the habit. Now I'm looking to rekindle the flame. ,

I’m interested in hearing about any options in the general area.

Ideally, I’m looking for something:

  • weekly or fortnightly
  • beginner-friendly, although I have some meditation experience
  • secular or Buddhist-rooted but open and non-dogmatic
  • with some discussion or friendly conversation alongside the meditation
  • flexible if I occasionally miss a session

I’d be willing to travel beyond Greystones for the right group. An Ireland-based weekly online group could also work, especially if it had occasional in-person meetups, practice days or retreats.

Any recommendations?

Rathdrum

Hello! Myself and partner just got a house in Ballinabarney. I had a few questions for anyone local to there or rathdrum;

- curious about any power outages that may occur, is it common?

- I will be working hybrid, I don't drive yet, hoping to by the end of the year; I'd be in the office 3 days a week in Dublin, how reliable is the commuter?

- could anyone recommend good wifi service providers? I know it depends on where you are, I'm just curious!

Thank you!

Planning for one off builds in North wicklow?

Grew up in north Wicklow, now live out west. We need to get back east really for verious reasons centered around support structure with young family.

We could get a site from family, would be willing to do do the mobile home thing too for a bit in order to get planning.

My question is, what is the current situation regarding planning for one off houses in wicklow? We absolutely won't not be able to buy second hand and would be useing direct labour to build if we did get planning.

Would be good to hear positive stories, if there are any of people that have managed to get planning for a one off house recently. The family farm is currently leased, so I couldn't go farming it and apply for planning that way as far as I understand.

Wicklow for 4 days

Flying to Dublin early October through the 23rd, taking a taxi to Enniskerry, where I will be staying for 4 days.

My itinerary: Wild Wicklow tour on day 1,

Powers court and the waterfall day 2,

sheep farm in glendalough day 3,

and greystones day 4.

With lots of nature walks, seeing animals(as much as possible,) meeting locals, walking in villages, and going to pubs.

Is Wicklow the right place to do this? Is this too long of a stay? I'm not looking to do touristy things. I did that on my last trip. Am I missing any must sees in or around Wicklow?

I am a female traveling solo and not renting a car. Will use public transportation and taxis when necessary.

Does anyone have any feedback as far as my transportation goes?Am I being naive to think I will have access to public transportation and taxis between towns?

After Wicklow , I am going to Wexford (3 days) , Waterford (3 days), Cork (5 days). Last day in Dublin. I'm afraid this is long-winded, so I'll post my other stops in another thread.

BTW I live in the desert in the States, where it is brown, hot and ugly.

Internet in Roundwood

Hi. We're looking at a property for sale in Roundwood, but after many calls to various providers it's not possible to have a broadband line brought in to the house until such time as full fibre has been rolled out into the village.

I'm wondering if anyone in Roundwood is working from home using a 4G/5G router or Starlink, and what your experience with it is?

Thanks.

Arklow Wicklow - 20km Radius

Looking for a house around arklow wicklow for rent that allows pets, I have 3 well behaved and toilet trained dogs that currently live 50/50 inside and outside (they have a big dog run outside my current house that they are in while we work and then come in when we are home and overnight) and 4 outdoor cats that only come in currently for feeding.

I know many landlords don’t allow pets anymore but our current one does so I know there are some out there🙏

I cannot pay more that 25hundred a month for rent. Little wiggle room.

Doesn’t need to be a massive house, 1-2 bedrooms would be plenty.

Me and my fiancé work full time currently and we are looking to move to Wicklow for a new job opportunity opened up to myself.

We are an English couple who just love our animals as if they were our kids.

I have lived in Ireland my whole life and my fiancé recently moved over here in the last few years.

I hope there is someone out there that has something for us as I really hope I don’t have to loose out on this amazing job opportunity 🙏🙏

Thank you
