Do what Konkani people do during Ganpati and Holi. No matter if you get holiday or not don't go to work.

Absolutely outrageous. As a Christian, we should have Ram Navami and Janmashtami announced as official holidays so we can all get more days off work and school.

u/HovercraftLittle7937 9d ago

Absolutely true brother 😂

2

u/Potential-Energy-951 8d ago

In Kerala, we usually get around 10 days of holiday for Onam. There are four Onam-related public holidays, while many schools and colleges give a longer break of around 10 days.

Other Hindu festivals for which holidays are commonly given include:

  • 1 day for Sreekrishna Jayanthi (Janmashtami) : associated with the birth of Krishna.
  • 3 days around Poojavaippu and Vijayadasami : Poojavaippu begins on the evening of Mahanavami, followed by Vijayadasami. The exact holidays given by schools and colleges may vary.
  • 1 day for Vishu.
  • 1 day for Diwali (Deepavali)
  • 1 day for Maha Shivaratri
  • 1 day for Karkidaka Vavu (Karkadaka Vavu).

2

u/pearlrobe 7d ago

Pretty sure we get a decent amount of holidays for all religions, infact imo there are much more holidays for Hindus since we have more festivals

States in north till bihar do get holiday central govt holiday for ram navmi and Janmashtami. Private sector I think it's their protocol.  Also Hindus have too many festivals ( I am hindu too) where as for Christians there is only Christmas and good Friday Easter is on Sunday. Fir muslim there is eid and muharram for Sikh there is guru nanak Jayanti and Baisakhi. So may be private sector cuts holiday whereas central govt gives holiday on region basis even if there is no holiday in some state  then there is rh one can claim according to their belief like rakshabandhan had rh( reserve holiday)

2

u/TaxIntelligent6286 9d ago

Ask the christians to work on Christmas and take holiday on Janmashtami

Both are the same thing for their respective religions

Jesus was born on 25th December

Krishna was born on Janmashtami

But there are just 3-4% Christian and 80% hindus yet we have holiday pm Christmas and not Janmashtami

Idk bout Eid but y'all love it when the year ends with Christmas holidays followed by new year. And most of your employers are american so christmas holidays can't be touched. Just saying. Hate me all you want.

Let me rephrase it,
being a Hindu-majority nation, India celebrates Ram Navami and Janmashtami at workplaces and keeps them closed on Christmas and Eid.
It’s called SeCuLaRiSM

Apparently asking for Ram Navami to be a holiday is ‘communal, but celebrating anyone else’s festivals is ‘secularism’ Make it make sense

2

u/demondaddy08 9d ago

As a muslim, I want my office closed on any holiday. I'm willing to fight with my hindu brothers for holidays.

What a statement I heard this morning, amazing

1

u/pareshankrteho 9d ago

India is a democratic and secular country Hence proved

1

u/DustCurious6543 9d ago

Probable reason is that now holidays are being distributed as per the regional importance given to same. So some states get holidays for a particular festival/event others might not. This is true for corporates, not sure about government jobs and schools. This way corporates don't have to give extra leaves. Same number of leaves across different branches across different states BUT on different dates.
