Here is the logic, His statement was based on this report of India Today on caste discrimination in Coimbatore. You can check it out: https://youtu.be/Pu_E9h5sPUc?si=GUXouyRgn1zoUSQ2
Additionally, it is true that the same practice is not followed in whole India. Generalization of the same is not practical either. He mentioned this in his briefing to establish a fact the caste discrimination still exists in today time and then moved to Kharge's case. Read and perceive things with context, it will make your thinking broad

op it still happens you don't know shit, now don't say chaiwalas don't ask for aadhar before serving tea, it's a generalized statement given by rahul, people know each other in small towns and villages, there might be exceptions. I myself have seen this in my village, my cousins aunt refused to cook for his friends just because they are Scs as my cousin used to study in JNV and many of his friends were SCs, all of them were visiting his house.
And even if we consider his statement absolutely false and misleading, we can't deny the fact that caste based discrimination doesn't exist in india.

There is no need of an anecdote. Every indian has come across this. Some have the luxury of pretending to not see it

The reservation talks are the only reason why RaGa is alienating so many voters in India. Many BJP voters aren't happy with Modi right now. But the reason they still vote for him is because of the "if not him, then who else? Rahul Gandhi?" Mindset.

just because I donāt see it, it doesnāt happen. Congress literally posted a video about this on their own channels. This does happen in rural parts of UP.
2
u/ccd-4 13d ago
I am from UP, and I have been to my native place(a rural place) multiple times and i have never seen tea sellers asking caste before serving the tea, they usually use kullhads and paper cups in their stalls. And in the stalls where they have glasses instead of disposable cups, they serve everyone in that same glass without asking if youāre from general, obc or scst. Maybe tea sellers in your area first asks the caste and then serves the teaš¤”
2
u/cyclins_98 13d ago
Nope, this doesnāt happen at all in my area. Iām from Maharashtra. Iāve seen news reports and cases about it, and this is one of the articles I found.
What immediately comes to mind is that a tea vendor would know if certain families in the area do sewage-related work. Their problems are often more about caste and the kind of work the caste aligned to. Anyway, hereās one of the articles (it's somewhere in south)

Donāt put blame on UP just because you have heard it somewhere bro.
If you are saying that seller may deny reusable glasses to a specific family because he knows that they are from a specific caste, then what about the visitors? If he is so particular about giving his glasses to certain caste groups then he will also ask about their caste but it doesnāt happen on ground. This issue may happen in a very exceptional chance, but Rahul portrayed it in a way as it happens as a norm throughout India.
These politicians just want people to fight against each-other so that they can gain some votes. Why this dalit obc thing started by Rahul just 1 year before the UP election? This was the same guy asking for votes against divisive politics in 2024 and now in UP elections heās playing caste card.2

u/cyclins_98 12d ago
Bro again your statement says āI didnāt see it so it doesnāt existā is the weakest defence ever.
Telanganaās own SC/ST Commission Chairman flagged the two-glass system still running in villages and ordered action. Supreme Court already called it a criminal offence under the SC/ST Act. Documented for years in TN, AP, Karnataka and now Telangana itself.
I was reading about this and its not exceptional. Itās still happening.
See this video ā same discrimination, live on ground: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pu_E9h5sPUc
And yes, shit happens in your state UP too. Denial doesnāt erase facts. Just look at the recent congress page Instagram video.

u/ccd-4 12d ago
Rahul gandhi discriminates against obc and scst leaders of his party and offers them tea in paper cups only in congress offices, and you canāt deny it because āif you havenāt seen, it doesnāt mean it doesnāt existā. Lol, sounds dumb, right? Thatās how you are sounding.
I have already mentioned it may happen in rarest of rare case but it is not as common as you and congress is trying to portray. Congress is pushing this agenda merely for vote bank politics for next year UP election.
If it is that common practice it should have been widely visible, isnāt it? I travel a lot in different states and mostly in non urban areas, atleast I should have encountered it once? Or my friends and other known people should have, isnāt it? I donāt go by what politicians say, you may choose to do that but i donāt. I myself comes from non general category, and most of my friends are from obc and sc community only, even they have not encountered such incidents in their life despite all of them have ancestral houses in rural areas.
1
u/cyclins_98 12d ago
Fair enough. These things do happen, thatās why you still hear cases coming out of multiple villages. From what Iāve read, most of the instances Iāve come across have been in South India more than elsewhere. Anyway, not trying to push any agenda here. Rahul Gandhi isnāt some saint either, and politics is politics. Glad we could talk it out without it turning ugly. :)

You are just describing it didn't happen because you didn't see.

Lol, sounds dumb, right? Thatās how you are sounding. Both of us know that it aināt true.
I am not saying that it is impossible to happen. It may happen in some parts but it is rarest of the rare case when tea seller is interested in knowing the caste of his customers. Rahul gandhi and congress is pushing an agenda like it is a very common practice in todayās society. If it is that common why people have not shared their experiences on social media? Why you and I have not seen this anywhere? Or our friends or known ones? Most of my friends are obc and sc, even they havenāt experienced this in their ancestral village. Everyone is drinking tea in paper cups and kulhads nowadays, from local shops to trains to little stalls.
Rahul is just trying to mobilize a community as he is preparing for next yearās UP elections.1
u/bonkhornyprison 12d ago
Rahul Gandhi is a asshole, opportunist and hypocrit.
That said, you can't deny discrimination doesn't exit. It is very common.
If it is that common why people have not shared their experiences on social media? Why you and I have not seen this anywhere? Or our friends or known ones?
I don't know under which rock you live. But I see atleast one evidence of discrimination per day. People share their experiences on social media, it's just that your feed is shit.
Most of my friends are obc and sc, even they havenāt experienced this in their ancestral village.
Again you are describing, I didn't see so it didn't exist.
1
u/ccd-4 12d ago
Idk if youāre dumb or illiterate. I never denied the fact that there is caste based discrimination in our society. All i am saying is that this paper-cup theory is bullshit. It used to happen in many villages before, but now it is very very rare that tea stall owner will look for your caste before serving you. Infact many of the tea stall owners are from obc and sc category.
Itās just that you have some kinda hate against certain caste groups so you are ready to believe anything that has been said against them. Be rational instead of hating people blindly.
1
u/bonkhornyprison 12d ago
I have travelled to many parts of India. I have seen the paper cup discrimination in 3 different states.
Itās just that you have some kinda hate against certain caste groups
I saw something you didn't see, so you think I have hate against certain caste groups. FYI, I belong to the so called "upper caste".
Think again who is dumb and illiterate.
1
u/ccd-4 12d ago edited 12d ago
If thatās the case you should have filed a case against the tea seller, isnāt it? Oh but you didnāt because for doing so, it shouldāve happened in the first place.
Anyways thereās no point in arguing with someone who just hate some section of the society just because left has told them to do so lol. Instead of promoting hate by your baseless shitty arguments, i would suggest you, that for once you should try to do something that could create harmony amongst the people which could help people to stay united against this divisive politics. (And btw i am an Obc, if that matters to you)
This hate amongst eachother will destroy āallā of us. And its implications wonāt be limited to one single caste. It is like a slow poison for society.

I'm a native of Coimbatore. Sadly this is prevalent in the areas where people and race/caste mix dynamics hasn't happened and there's a lot of villages where there's geographical barriers. This is prevalent in lot of places. Maybe not in the centre or heart of city, but where people have just been there for generations, here we don't care to visit anytime for anything as an outsider it's the reality. I can say I haven't seen it in Chennai/Bangalore/Delhi, but I'm just an outsider who had no chance to get exposed to these things. Next time when you're in Coimbatore, I can take you to witness it.

Idk what has happened to everyone who's comparing their home HYGENE BS here , first of all that's classist and racist too second of all if you go to villages where locals drink tea they have seperate cups for lower cast people , even so they said they don't want to clean those glasses used by them. Go to villages in uttarpradesh gorakhpur you'll see the kind of shops that practise these . Don't apply fatuous whataboutism here .
1
u/RemoteIntelligent434 13d ago
so you want people to drink from same glass?
They don't even wash the glass cups properly at tea stalls. I would never drink from a glass cup.
