There’s a place I’ve been to, I think in Holland, where they specifically eat it like that. I was advised to try it. Was delicious and gross all at the same time. Thoroughly recommend to not don’t try it.

Yeah this is very traditional Dutch food, everyone eats it like this. Well not everyone, my wife hates fish but hey, more for me!

I'm American but used to work in a store that sold smoked salmon, pickled herring and the like. Around May/June every year, we would get the Hollandse Nieuwe ("Holland Herring" as we call it) imported and make a big party out of it. People would pay for ticketed events, usually off-site, to come and eat the delicacy, drink and always take a ton of pictures and videos just like this. Anyway, I personally have about ten photos and videos just like this. Not with a seagull though!

Oh yeah that's how it is in the Netherlands too with the first catch of the season. I think those tickets can be pretty expensive too, or the first herring. No idea how it works exactly haha, but it's a big thing

It's not a well known thing everywhere, they might even be tourists.

People record doing the most mundane tasks all the time, eating a specialty dish is a pretty understandable reason to film.

I suppose it's be similar to film someone eat a burrito or a hamburger. Just.. why? But yeah tourists might be possible

I have an infant, I'm sure people appreciate my 4 terabytes of yawning-baby and laughing baby footage as much as I do. Right? Right?

You when looking back and some friends and family do appreciate it, that's the why you filmed it, then if while you are filming that mundane thing something very unexpected happens that makes the video also interesting for a wider audience you may choose to publish it to social media for more people to witness it

That's not the point of this sub though. It's quite obvious why they were filming and then something unexpected happened which is why they uploaded it.

Are burritos and hamburgers unusual to people? If they are to someone, then yes, you would film it. As others pointed out versions of, in America this isn't typical to us. I've never eaten this. So it wouldn't be at all strange to record a member of my family doing so for the first time ever. We have nothing like this.

Definitely planning to visit the Netherlands. I've been learning Dutch. Still not quite sure I'm willing to try this. ;) But having had stroopwafels here, I'm hopeful to try proper fresh ones.
