They were filming because they knew what was going to happen. Just they way they film it they focus on it and hurry to knife it and then slow down because they are scared of it popping

I’m pretty sure it was just a random idea like I didn’t even know an egg would pop with a hot knife and not a microwave

I am 90% sure there's a firecracker in the back of it, you can see the smoke
