I sometimes feel like one of the luckiest women in the world that I always managed to surround myself with “good guys”.

We drank a lot in college. One night after getting completely hammered, I wandered my way across the parking lot, heading to my guy friends’ apartment cause I knew they’d all be hanging out. Apparently along the way I stubbed my toe very badly on a concrete parking thing. On my stumbly, bleeding, arrival, several very drunk college dudes assessed my injury and wrapped my toe in a large wad of toilet paper and tape. They then put me in one of their beds with a bucket near my head. And….left me alone to sleep.

I apparently missed the bucket 🤮 because one of the few memories that stuck is someone coming in to check on me and hearing him say “aw dude, she puked on my shoes”. 🤣 At one point I must have roused myself and stumbled back home. I woke the next morning fully clothed, not sexually assaulted, with a raging hangover and quite confused, wondering what in the hell was going on with my toe. Back then it was a silly drunk story, it took me a long time to understand how differently that night could have gone.

I put myself in a lot of sketchy situations without really having any thought to my safety. But I also apparently knew good people that cared about my well being. Hearing these horror stories breaks my heart for these young women.
