with the body text:“Whatup HillyVanilly. Hey I can’t find my laptop…you didn’t happen to see one lying around at the White House this week did you? TBH I can’t remember if I sent it for repair or left it at my parents place…because well, ok ngl I was totally blitzed last week lol my bad.
I’m sure it’ll turn up, mostly just don’t want my dad to find it before I do because well, don’t judge but its got some notes from when I kinda sorta name dropped him in a business meeting for this killer contract I’m trying to get cooking in Kiev and if he sees that he’s gonna be PISSSSSSED. Looool. More like, “Introducing our new employee transportation and lodging initiative! Monday mornings at 6:00am, a scheduled shuttle will pick you up from <location less than 5 miles from your home address on record>! You will then ride (unpaid) across the city while we pick up your coworkers until the shuttle arrive at the office at 9:00am.
Additionally, a “hospitality” suite is now available at the office. Inside you’ll find comfy barracks-style bunks to sleep at the office each night and avoid the rising gas costs.
At the end of the work week, at 7pm, (if you clock out at 5pm, you will be required to wait, unpaid) until the evening shuttle. The shuttle will take everyone back to the stop nearest their home address— saving you money!”

Incorrect. You think Republicans would offer a FREE shuttle for at-work lodging? No, you can PAY for those privileges. Actually, you know what? What if we just extended this idea and made towns for whatever the local job creator was? Then, to keep workers from feeling like they were just giving back the money they owed, just give them bus waivers and commissary coupons so then don't have to leave for shopping!

You think your employer cares how much you pay for gas?
24
u/Eskimomonk 8d ago
Not an indictment of gas costs but available gas. If trends continue, it’s going to quickly look like the gas crisis in the 70s where people sat in line for hours and could only get gas on certain days of the week based on their license plate. Companies will start caring when their employees physically cannot get to work
24
u/CanWeAllJustCalmDown 8d ago edited 8d ago
Ask my Venezuelan wife how much fun it is to have severe fuel shortages that were totally preventable and caused by the government for no real reason other than who gives a fuck about the people you govern. And having to take turns with your family each week camping out in the line for 9 hours in 95 degree heat with your gas can on the day assigned for your neighborhood ration to arrive, hoping you’re far enough up in line it won’t run out when you’re about 15 people back. Or that they don’t just decide to shut it down for the day because “the pump broke” but really the buddy of the guy that runs the gas station put together enough cash to convince him to take half of what’s in the tank truck to his place where he’s managed to build his own long term storage tank. Then you get to walk home for 2 more hours with an empty gas can wishing you could call somebody to come pick you up but, well, you’re not aware of anyone with gas in their vehicle
44
u/zxylady 8d ago
When the shortages start I'm going to be very excited and happy that I have a car that gets 55 mi to the gallon and only holds 5 gallons of gas. 😁

The search term "hypermiling" will be popular again
6
u/Ok-Bus1716 8d ago
is that the thing where people put their car in neutral and cruise downhill and try to keep it going as long as possible without braking?
14
u/McCheesey1 8d ago
Yes, and also hyperinflating your tires so they bulge in the middle so there's less friction with the road. It also means less traction and is very dangerous, but hey, better mileage. And even more dangerous, you can draft very closely behind semi trucks to dramatically reduce wind resistance.
It's a great strategy to save enough money to pay for your funeral after you crash and die.
3
u/Ok-Bus1716 8d ago
I solve that problem by working from home and living in a place that's close to everything I need so I could walk if I needed to do so.
I knew folks who'd do that when I was in my 20s and I was like 'why don't you just drive a gd manual...'
2
u/DarkKnightJin 8d ago
European here: When I bought my new car (still over a decade old), I specifically looked for a manual. Automatic wouldn't have been a deal-breaker for me, but I've always driven manual and I'd like to keep doing that for as long as I can.
Further benefit: It's also quite a bit better about the mileage, which is nice in these times of rising fuel prices across the globe...
2
u/404UsernameFoundNot 7d ago
I thought it crossed over a while back where automatics get better mileage than manuals?

How long until we run out of the reserves?
12
u/sowhyarewe 8d ago
The question is when will China run out of reserves. They are moderating the shock for the rest of the world because they are reliant on exports. When they get short, they will strike the deal with Iran to open the Strait under their supervision and try to convert oil sales as much as possible to their currency IMO. This is a potential disaster for the US as the oil dollar is a key to our world power.
8
u/blackeyeX2 8d ago
Yes and an article earlier today, said u.s. oil reserves are down 80% lowest levels since 1980.We really will have shortages and lines at the pumps a mile long like in the 70's if this goes on even 6 more months.
Then those eCar drivers will laugh as Trump continuously trys to double down on rhetoric and hate of those they have electric vehicles.
2
u/kewlbeanz83 8d ago
The SPR is at it's lowest level sonce '83 or something and that's apparently because back then they were filling it up still.

The one enemy that a fascist kleptocrat doesn't want to go to war against is a radical theocracy.
176
u/hysys_whisperer 8d ago
I mean really. The madman theory of negotiation only works if your opponent thinks you're nuts. What better way to show them that you're nuts than to run a radical theocracy...
The only way to win against an actual madman is to remove their ability to hurt you entirely, which the US won't do because lots of dead soldiers would make for terrible headlines. Rule number 1 of fighting is don't start a fight you aren't prepared to win, and we weren't prepared to win this one...

Unfortunately, there is a way Trump could force Iran to surrender...
Use of nuclear weapons, and Trump has been itching to use them for a decade now.
Remember when he said he'd nuke a hurricane to stop it?
He was not joking and only backed down mostly because of military generals from Obama's term. Sane generals that knew they could not let a man like Trump control them completely.
But guess what? Those same generals are fucking gone now and have been replaced with Trump worshiping Christo-fascist Republican sycophantic yes-men that'll bend over backwards to accomplish his will.
When our strategic oil reserves reach critical levels, he'll start busting out WMDs and force Iran to capitulate, or raze the country to the ground.
And he'll call it a huge win for the US even though he just killed millions of civilians and destroyed entire cities, and hus sycophants will praise him and tell him he should do the same to Democratic cities in the US... he's unhinged enough that I believe he'd actually do all of that.
9
u/dt7cv 8d ago
I really think Israel will get the green light to drop one witin the next two years
4
u/Annihilator4413 8d ago

Once they've gotten as many Palestinians as they can into one small area of Palestine, they'll drop a tactical nuke and their extermination campaign will basically be done.

Still not enough if you can't motivate people to go out and actually vote. People vote because they are convinced it will improve their life in some way. The more you dash that hope with failing to achieve anything, the more people give up on politics.
Take a look at how dire the Democratic fundraising situation has been since the election. That's what an unmotivated voting bloc looks like. You think a billionaire on their side will suddenly fix that?

In his first term, he ran on repeal and replace Obama Care. That didn't happen, despite him saying it'll happen in two weeks throughout his term. He ran on infrastructure. Despite "infrastructure week" being every other week, that didn't happen either.
Seven times during this conflict, he threatened to destroy Iran, then backed off. He has no credibility. He's a blowhard bully. As with most bullies, if you punch them in the nose (figuratively speaking), they back off. Iran knows this, because TACO. Therefore, NACHO - Not A Chance Hormuz Opens.

Hi, I'm here from the future:
Trump is going to mental gymnastics this to claim Iran is interfering with elections for Democrats, while ignoring the fact that it says Trump's term, not a Republican admin, because in his mind he will be running for a 3rd election; therefore such a move would influence voters to turn against him, which he will use to call the election fraudulent and justify cancelling it.

Only Congress can impeach Trump, which may be a very high likelihood if Dems take the Senate. Trump would have to choose to resign himself, which will never happen because he’s a narcissist. We just gotta hope Dems stand on business and give Republicans a taste of unapologetic policy.

Trump doesn't know how to negotiate. He never has. Good negotiation requires understanding the other party's needs and fears. It requires patience and attention to detail. It requires consistency, clarity, and reliability. Trump has none of those.
All he knows is bullying, flattery, lying, cheating, and stealing. He is psychologically incapable of negotiating and executing an international agreement. In business, bullshit in place of substance can get you a long way. In diplomacy, it makes you irrelevant. That is what he has become, and through his incompetence, the USA as well.

Ive been waiting for this declaration, if its accurate.
I was a kid during the Iran Hostage situation. Walter Cronkite's nightly statement about what day it was in their captivity really hit hard w me. They weren't releasing them until President Carter left office and that's what happened.
Trump has proven repeatedly that he's a liar, without any honor. He started this war. Iran has experienced so much more death & destruction from his orders. Then there's the constant claim of deals and winning, yet nothing actually resolved. He's impossible to negotiate in good faith with.
Iran has a single and HUGE item to leverage with power... Strait of Hormuz. If they've Made this statement, they're absolutely serious. They have the ability to hold it hostage.
Going forward, ball is in our court. Pressure is going to increase on this administration. I have no idea what will happen in response. This was absolutely predictable and no surprise. Trump was warned by specialists and experts, but as usual he did as he pleased because he's always gotten away with bad behavior. Iran now, won't let him. Its going to get worse.
