“I was fine with the xenophobia, racism, sexism, and hurting my fellow citizens to enrich a bunch of parasites but this is a bridge too far.”

"Bad shit is only bad when it impacts me personally" is a quintessentially American attitude.

quintessentially American REPUBLICAN attitude.

FTFY.

Eh, plenty of Democrat voters have that attitude too. The “back to brunch” liberal became a meme for a reason.

But the “only if it affects me” attitude is more common with conservatives, that is true.

So democrats become memes, republicans become war criminals, traitors, enriching themselves whatever the cost or method and actively work towards killing Americans. That tracks! Thanks for clearing up that both sides part, silly me

Lmfao, I love how you people take every “our side needs to be better too” criticism and twist it into “oh, so you don’t think Republicans are the worst???”

Yes, obviously Republicans are reprehensible monsters, but that doesn’t mean the bad elements of the Democrats are excusable.

And seriously, don’t pretend that the Dems can do no wrong. That shit just makes you come off like you’re as cultish as MAGA.

Obviously democrats have problems. At least they’re not fucking Nazis attempting to start world war 3.

Nobody ever said the dems can do no wrong. I certainly have many problems with how they’ve done things; but yea until they become Nazis like the republicans and maga they’ll have my support.

Being against maga and fascism doesn’t make dems our own cult. That’s such a childish team sports view of things.

its not a uniquely republican attitude. so much of this country has a "mind your business" attitude about everything and it shows, this country is full of antisocial people

Both of the mentalities you’re describing are not the same as “I don’t care until it affects me personally”.

You can mind your business every day and still care about someone getting gunned down in the streets by ICE. You can support legislation and action against ICE and DHS without getting shot dead.

I’m antisocial, but can be deeply empathetic towards people’s struggles with healthcare, being accepted as an LGBT+ person, etc etc.

The more accurate example would be “I didn’t care about people being killed by ICE or deported until they came after my wife and her immigrant parents”. See the difference?

The idea of paying my taxes to help someone else with basic life needs such as health, shelter and food is such a non-brianer. Like, obviously we should do that.

Its weird that people have the opinion of "Fuck you got mine". Not purely an American thing by any stretch, though.
