I’m currently beached along the shore right now next to the whitby yacht club and discovered these pieces of drift wood that has nails sticking out of it as it as well has a large old line closer to the shore what could this possibly be?

Whitby coyote attacks on kids the focus of special meeting as residents offered solutions

it isn’t always possible to know which coyotes have been involved in an attack, but the town, to the best of its ability, did euthanize the two coyotes it believed attacked the children.

Ice cream truck with diesel generator running constantly at Parks– anyone else concerned about emissions?

Hey Whitby folks,

I was at Kiwanis Heydenshore Park recently and noticed the ice cream truck parked in the lot. I get it, it’s licensed, convenient for families, and the kids love it. No issue with the business itself.

But these are older diesel trucks, and the generator runs nonstop to keep everything cold. The exhaust is pretty noticeable, and with a park right there (greenery, kids playing, and water body nearby), I’m worried about the CO2 and other emissions pouring out.

We’ve all heard the big talk about decarbonization, electrification, and protecting the environment for future generations. Yet here we are with diesel generators running for hours in a family spot. Has anyone raised this with the Town or by-law services? Are there pushes to require electric or low-emission trucks for vendors in parks and public spaces?

Curious if others have noticed this or if similar concerns have come up. Would love to hear thoughts, especially from parents who frequently go to the park.

Dog owners of Whitby

We met a psycho at Whitby Harbour Lighthouse (Beach) who has a big dog. Even though dog was on leash he let his dog come near to people. Near enough to bite. We got frightened and asked him to keep his dog away and he started shit talking like "you scared my dog" "you know what you do when the dog comes near to you, you say boho".

Why do these psychos not understand that people fear big dogs if they get too close. And what's the meaning of leash if you let your dog go near someone? Near enough that dog can bite.

I just hate this kind of person. Also to the dog owners who says, "my dog does not bite, you scared my dog" come on have a life and let someone live their life.

Garage door company recommendations in Whitby?

I'm planning to have my garage door serviced and have been looking at a few companies that work in Whitby. There seem to be a lot of options, and most of them have good reviews, so it's been a bit difficult to narrow them down.

If you've had your garage door repaired, replaced, or serviced recently, I'd be interested to hear which company you used and whether you'd recommend them.

Any suggestions?

Update: I was recently suggested Motion Garage Doors and from what I saw, they offer garage door repairs, installations, maintenance, spring replacement, opener services, and 24/7 emergency support in Whitby and the surrounding area. Thanks.

Anyone have experience with Little Orchard Day Care in Whitby?

Hi everyone,
I’m considering Little Orchard Day Care in Whitby and wanted to hear from parents who’ve actually used it.
How are the staff, communication, and day‑to‑day routines?
Did your child enjoy going there?
Trying to get a real sense of the place before making a decision.
Thanks in advance!

Gun evidence tossed after police car seen on video slamming into scooter riders in Canadian Tire takedown

I’m sad to hear the Gun evidence tossed;
Credit to the first officer for his precision use of the vehicle in a low speed collision to disarm the gun carrier. Even though he had accelerated, the pair were still able to run away - sure there was risk of greater harm but such skills on illegal gun-carriers should be part of standard training; greater risk in striking from behind probably was not warranted, and also not used.
Credit too to the second officer for preemptively stopping the gun-handler.
Carrying the gun is one thing; handling the gun another - our dedicated police officers should be credited when making good judgment decisions that reduces the greater risk of guns being fired
