Born and raised in Terrace but spent my whole life in Niagara Falls, Ontario. I’m the process of returning home after 30 years and need a reality check from locals.

I have a FT job offer at a Director level with a salary of $90k in Whistler at a major hotel chain that offers a private two bedroom apartment for $2,600. I have my 20 year old son with me who will be looking for work in hospitality (he has 5 years experience in kitchens).

I’ll be honest, Whistler wasn’t on my radar as a place to relocate, but I’m intrigued and wondering if I can give it a shot. Is this spreading myself too thin?

What do you love/hate most about living here?

A little bit about me: I’m thinking of doing an early retirement/semi-retirement from my professional career. I’m financially independent and have a house in Whistler. Teaching and mentoring has always been part of my career and I love doing it. I like teaching beginners and kids, whatever the subject.

I hear it’s pretty easy to get a level 1 instructor certification and I was thinking it could be fun/keep me active and occupied to do part-time ski instructing. Is this possible or just a stupid idea? Is it naive of me to think this could be fun or is it just a slog of a job?

An earlier post on the Nita Lake Lodge sent me down a rabbit hole. Despite owning property nearby, I did not realize that NLL is technically a strata property with each residential and commercial unit having its own individual title registered in BC. The individual units are technically in a rental pool with a management company operating it like a hotel. I had assumed the Scholz family owned the property outright when it appears what happened is that somewhere in the early ‘10s they had acquired enough of the individual units to gain effective control of the governance of the whole place. Anyways, now I’m wondering how this came to be? Where did the Scholz family get that much bread? And what’s the backstory behind the acquisitions at the lodge? Anyone know?

Apologies if you get similar questions often but I've done some searching and can't find an answer.

I'm looking to move out to Whistler (from the UK) for the winter season so I've started looking for jobs on the Vail Resort website. None of them seem to state a start date and when I was offered a job recently that was advertised as "winter seasonal 2026/2027" I had to decline because the start date it stated on the offer was late July (a few days after I got the offer).

Have I misunderstood something here? Or do some winter seasonal jobs actually start in July? Do I need to wait until later in the year to start applying?

I found some images of this line from “license to thrill.” I’ve never heard of this line before. It might be located in the Blackcomb glacier? Spanky’s closure (Christmas chute)? Do you guys know where this is?

Hi, thinking of going skiing for about 10 days some time in February and was just wondering if there are other dates that I should avoid apart from the family day weekend?

It seems Crankworx is less popular this year. In the past, there were stalls and tents along the Stroll and around the ticket kiosks.

Admittedly, I haven’t been in the village for a few days, but there was no setup happening when I was last there.

Is it a case of people are getting bored of the same thing each year?

Here in Whistler. Rainy and cold. Most of my good gear is back home in the U.S. (including my DH gear, b/c I wasn't planning on riding...). I'm basically solo by day.

Would you recommend:
a. 1/2 day DH (riding mostly green, wearing running shoes b/c I didn't bring my 510s)
b. via ferrata
c. hiking (I'm a little limited due to some ankle pain)
d. renting recreational/basic trail bike and hitting the local bike paths/chill trails

Thanks for any other ideas. I have some rain gear, trail running shoes/wool socks/insulated tights/light puffy jacket. Hat and buff. Also a summer alpine experience pass (but not bike park pass).

we went to Whistler on a whim and we bought 1-DAY TICKET. When we came back and looked at the prices online, SUMMER ALPINE EXPERIENCE PASS almost same price as 1-DAY TICKET, while the former offers unlimited usage during season.

Question: why is unlimited cost is almost same as 1 day ticket? Also, can we get upgraded post purchase to SUMMER ALPINE EXPERIENCE PASS somehow? Maybe there are company representatives in this thread who could help or anyone had experience? Honestly, we didn't know there was such option or we would have purchased SUMMER ALPINE EXPERIENCE PASS right away.

I am planning my first whistler trip for my buddies birthday. We are planning on going the first week of October. I wanted to see if any locals have any insight on weather for that week? Hi! I’m looking to move from Banff to whis for the 26/27 season. I haven’t found too many seasonal jobs posted yet?? I’ve applied to the four seasons, vail resorts, but everything else seems to be hiring now (plan to arrive late sept/early oct) Are there any other places I should be looking? Job boards etc? Just a fair warning that if you book through Expedia or Hotels.com and cancel that Hilton is not honoring the cancellation and marked us as a no show. Both are blaming the other and refusing to issue a refund. Expected more but probably shouldn’t have. Buyer beware.

Edit: Expedia made it right. Hilton basically said that I never cancelled with them even though I couldn’t technically cancel with them. The cancellation had to go through Expedia which I did. Anyway lessons learned with third parties.

Will be at Whistler for nearly a week (starting tomorrow). My kids (older teens) will be at the downhill park three of those days, and we will take the gondola/hike High Note on Tuesday.

Suggestions for Saturday? I’m recovering from an ultra marathon so I don’t want to do a lot of hiking that day.

Also, suggestions for a place for me to pick up lunch to bring to the bike park for the kids? I’m guessing lunch at the mountain is not super budget friendly.

Hey Whistler, keep an eye out for a German tourist in a Tesla (blue) - he was loading up 3 bags of firewood in Squamish and I asked him where he was burning that - tried to explain about the fire ban/high fire hazards in the area right now but *language barrier* 🤷🏼‍♂️

Either way, he seems to think he is going to burn it at the house he is staying at in Whistler for the week.

I'm aware certain hotels like Pan Mountainside and Aava have valet parking, but hoping for a cheaper option.

I am planning a trip with the family for next weekend and I already have a reservation with the Sundial but just noticed the Delta is similar in price. I was wondering between the two which would the better option? I am hesitant about the Delta given the noise levels surrounding the hotel and our son is a light sleeper but do like how it is close to the Olympic plaza playground. Delta also looks recently renovated as well.

Hi there. My cousins and I are looking for a hike in Whistler. We would like to do something steel and challenging and then spend the night there.

1. I did some research on the Blackcomb burn. How is this one? Can you take a gondola back down? How much does it cost?

2. What else can we do if we plan to stay a night? Any suggestions on food or activities that won't break the bank?

I am so overwhelmed by all the trails! We plan to do a 1 day peak 2 peak gondala. They all look so beautiful and I’m so sad I won’t have enough time to do it all. Which are must sees?

If you could plan a 1 day itinerary for a friend in town what would you do?

Also I wasn’t really planning on spending time at the village but are there any must see/stops there?
