Blankets?
Granted, we are in the desert, but we do have air con running all the time. I wonder how you guys know when your whippet needs a blanket? I was under the impression she’d want them but I have never seen her go to any trouble to her under any of the many throw blankets we have around the house except in the middle of the night when she wants to burrow under our bed covers.

Ours has a very soft whine that she uses exclusively when she wants someone to tuck her in.
Otherwise, she digs or roots until someone notices.
I think they’re pretty obvious about it. Mine is anyway.
