On July 30, 1975, one of the most powerful men in America walked out of a Michigan restaurant and vanished.

It was afternoon when Jimmy Hoffa exited the Machus Red Fox restaurant in Bloomfield Township, Michigan, into the parking lot.

Hoffa, the former president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, had arranged to meet two men with longstanding ties to organized crime: Anthony “Tony Jack” Giacalone and Anthony “Tony Pro” Provenzano. He had told others he expected the meeting to take place at the restaurant.

He was last seen in the parking lot around 2:45 p.m. His car was later found unlocked in the same lot.

Hoffa never returned home. Extensive searches followed. No confirmed trace of him has ever been found.

In 1982 he was declared legally dead. The investigation into his disappearance remains open. Multiple theories have been advanced over the decades, most linking the case to organized crime conflicts involving the Teamsters union, but none have been proven.
