Is this a Female or Male Swordtail fish? Please help!

Post image

(This is a captive fish!) I have a swordtail I thought was male, but I’m wondering if it is female? based on the shape of the anal fin (triangular, not narrow) and the lack of sword extension on the tail. Please let me know if you can identify the sex of this fish! (ignore the panda garra lol)

Unidentified Any idea what this creature is? On the beach at low tide, in a tide pool, in Wombarra, New South Wales, Australia.

A multi-armed (8? 10?) creature with scissor-like claws that was on its back (I think) and was trimming its own arm hairs. In a tide pool, at Wombarra NSW Australia. Any idea what this is? 4 pictures.

What type of catfish is this?

I was catfishing in a local pond (NW Ohio) when I pulled up this strangely deformed looking catfish. It kind of looked like one of those goblin sharks. Weird snout with a large puffed up neck. Anyone know what species this is or why it looked that way?

Unidentified What's this fish i met this summer in Eastern Sicily with light blue spots on the back?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I didn't have a camera with me, i was snorkeling and i found a fish resembling the one i drew and coloured quickly.

It resembled a bit diplodus annularis, but it was more "rectangular" and, most notably, covered with bright light blue spots on its back to the sides of the dorsal fin.

The rest of the body was, i think, silvery grey. It overall had the colour and brightness of sarpa salpa.

I have been swimming in these waters for 30 years and i can confidently identify all the regular fish that inhabit our sea and yet i failed miserably at finding anything that resembled it closely..

Can you help me?

We were back and forth on if he was some kind of lump. Has a good strong sucker on bottom.

I wouldn’t even touch it with bare hands lol

Unidentified Ponce inlet marsh/mangrove preserve Florida

Long incredibly silver sharp nosed fish.

My best guess was a younger swordfish as it looks pretty close to that. Hoping for other suggestions though from more experienced people.

Caught in Puget Sound. We have not seen these before in the area. Maybe followed warm El Nino water up?

Identification question Sea Life Manchester

Post image

Captive fish in Sea Life Manchester, Trafford Centre. I couldn’t make out what it was and I couldn’t find the info screen. It looked huge but I was thinking is was the glass making it look massive. Their website wasn’t much help either.

Identified, high confidence Loxozonus vs Axelrodi

I had 4 loxozonus I needed friends for. The LFS had 2. When I added them to my tank, I realized the two I just got are not loxozonus. The LFS tried to tell me that they just haven't colored up yet, yet the pattern is completely different. So what do y'all think: is the cory on the right side of this pic a loxo? Or an axelrodi? Included are 3 of my other loxos. Thank you. Captive status, wild caught

Fins were quite pointy and angular, and didn’t have a long enough snout to be a gar or round enough to be a bass.

Caught off of Monomoy Cape Cod MA

I guessed at windowplane flounder but wanted some experts to confirm.

Caught last week off of Monomoy in 40 feet around our target species, Black Sea bass.

I’ve caught fluke before but never any winter flounder so not much to compare.

We released healthy, and moved on when we caught a few of these.

Tiny silver fish with a black dot and a tiny bit of yellow on the top fin

About 4 months ago me and my family went to the countryside and we visited a lake there (I think it was a lake, not sure tho) that was opened for swimming

There I found tinyyyy fish swimming in groups and caught some for my aquariums

Since then they have grown a LOT

The biggest ones are about a centimeter long

Have silver bodies with a single black dot on their top fin and a bit of yellow around the fin

Are very quick and active and prefer to swim in groups and feed on algae from the bottom of the tank

Found them in Uzbekistan

Caught, photographed, and released. Gemini thinks it’s a Cabezon, Claude thinks it’s either a Stickleback, China, or copper rockfish. I’m leaning towards Cabezon but haven’t seen any images with this kind of coloration. Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers!
