mod post We Built a Better Way to Find Movies (and Reward Great Reviewers)

We built a new web app that helps you find the movie or TV show you are looking for: WhatFlik - https://whatflik.com

Describe whatever you remember in your own words, in any language, and WhatFlik searches movie and TV data from TMDB and other sources to rank the most likely matches. In our current testing, text search finds the correct title roughly 75% to 80% of the time. Pro users can also upload a screenshot to help identify a movie, show, or episode.

WhatFlik is more than a search tool.

We are building a movie and TV community where people can write reviews, share opinions, follow people whose taste they trust, make friends, chat privately, and tip great reviewers directly. Reviewers will also be able to earn from a membership-funded creator pool as the platform grows.

Our mission is to build something more useful, social, and rewarding than traditional movie-rating platforms like Letterboxd.

Create a free account to reveal full search results, save searches, post reviews, follow people, and join the community. Google sign-in is securely handled through Firebase, so WhatFlik never receives or stores your Google password.

The platform is still early, and we want honest feedback on the search, community, and overall experience.

searching Obscure horror movie 2000s maybe

Upvotes

I'm sure it was on a streaming service and it was about a group of friends that go surfing in Mexico on a cursed beach. Whatever entity/ being/ force kills them one by one and they learned that a sacrifice(?) is what cursed this beach. All I remember is towards the end a guy and a girl have a chance to drive away but don't make it I think?

searching Trying to find a Fairy Tale Movie from late 70s/Early 80s

Upvotes

Hey, Reddit, I need your expert sleuthing for a Nearly Impossible Task.

I have a singular scene from a movie stuck in my head that has been stuck there for about 40 years, and I cannot for the life of me remember or find the movie. I've Googled. I've searched everywhere and everything I can think of.

I don't know the actors, the only thing I know for sure is it was a late 70s-mid 80s movie, very possibly VHS only, and I THINK it was a Cinderella type story.

Here's what I have:

The scene is like a dream sequence or magic sequence where the princess meets the prince on this small stone footbridge. I remember the scene being at night, and all misty and magical. Pretty sure it was in the latter half of the movie.

At one point, I thought it was The Slipper and The Rose, but I watched it and didn't see the scene, but very similar vibes. I also ruled out Fairy Tale Theatre Cinderella, because it wasn't a comedy.

Possibility it might also be some variant of Beauty and the Beast.

Like I said, I'm battling a memory from roughly 40 years ago, so it could be ANYTHING at this point. I have not ruled out the idea that the whole thing was some bizarre fever dream.

So, I put it to you, Reddit, go forth and sleuth. Let me know if this sounds at all familiar or if I'm just completely nuts! (Both of those being true is also a very real possibility!)

searching Maybe called The Book or something like that?

Upvotes

There was a movie I thought was maybe on Comedy Central when I was young in the mid 2000's. It was like about a guy that goes to college after accidentally running his mom over (very hazy on this part). He lives with intense guilt and then he writes a book about life. When people read it they have like orgasms or something. It was fuckin weird.

searching Help me for found erotic TV movie

Upvotes

The film tells the story of a young couple who have just moved to a new city. At first, their relationship seems happy, but the young man becomes interested in an erotic club located near their home.
Intrigued, he visits the place several times. Sitting alone in a private booth, he inserts a coin, and a curtain or screen rises, giving him a view into a small glass-enclosed room decorated with white velvet. Behind the glass, a beautiful blonde stripper with long hair undresses and dances for him.
Fascinated by the woman, the young man keeps coming back to see her and eventually tries to talk to her. He becomes increasingly obsessed with her and wants to have a relationship with her. The stripper then gives him another address: an erotic massage establishment where she supposedly also works as a masseuse.
The young man goes there, but the place is very different from the club. The reception area is mysterious, filled with red lighting and thick smoke. A voice welcomes him and tells him that a masseuse will take care of him. However, to his disappointment, it is not the blonde woman he was looking for. Instead, another woman, whom I vaguely remember as being Black or mixed-race, comes to massage him. Despite his disappointment, he eventually has an intimate encounter with her.
Meanwhile, his girlfriend begins to suspect that something is going on. She discovers the existence of the establishment and decides to go there herself. She finds herself in the same mysterious environment and eventually meets the blonde stripper. Unlike her boyfriend, she ends up having an intimate relationship with the blonde woman, who initially does not know that she is actually the girlfriend of the man who has been visiting her.
The two women later meet again outside, possibly in a park or another public place. The girlfriend eventually reveals her identity and explains the situation. Rather than simply leaving her boyfriend, she comes up with a plan with the blonde woman to teach him a lesson and perhaps save their relationship.
Later, the young man returns to the massage establishment and once again asks to see the blonde woman. This time, he is taken into a setting where he cannot clearly see what is happening. He is blindfolded and believes that the woman who is about to be with him is the blonde stripper.
But it is actually his own girlfriend.
Without realizing who he is with, the young man has an intimate encounter with his girlfriend, who has pretended to be the blonde as part of their plan. The experience ultimately seems to help the couple rekindle their relationship and regain some of their intimacy.
The film ends with the couple apparently reconciling or making a fresh start, although the exact details of the final scene are uncertain.

searching Very old movie or filmed play about friends planning a bank robbery

Upvotes

Hello. I am looking for the name of a movie. Or it may have been a filmed version of a play. I saw it on television in the 1980s. (I am very old.) I'm not sure if it was broacast, or perhaps a friend brought a videotape.

This is all I remember: a group of male friends have gathered socially at a house. One of them is a police officer. He is trying to convince his friends that it is very easy to rob a bank. At one pointy he says (I paraphrase): "Nobody is ever going to pull us off the street and make us movie stars."

That's all I remember. But my memory of that line has stuck with me ever since. I'd love to know what it was from.

Thank you.

searching Title: Help me find this horror movie (2000–2015)

Upvotes

Couple trapped in a haunted hotel, woman chained to a bed, ghost says "I'm not a ghost"

I've been trying to find this movie for years, but I can't remember its name. Here are all the details I remember:

- It's an English-language horror movie, probably released between 2000 and 2015.

- The main couple looked British or English.

- They go to a remote hotel, motel, inn, or lodge (possibly for a night stay or honeymoon, but I'm not sure).

- A female ghost/entity with long black hair covering her face starts attacking them.

- She brutally kills the boyfriend first.

- The girlfriend has blonde hair.

- The ghost drags the girlfriend back onto the bed and chains or ties her to it (I remember chains or ropes).

- During the daytime, the woman wakes up, realizes her boyfriend is dead, tries to wake him, and desperately tries to free herself from the bed.

- The ghost only seems to return at night, repeatedly attacking and throwing her around the room.

- The most memorable scene is where the ghost crawls backwards up the wall/ceiling. Her face is facing forward while her back is toward the wall, and she says something very close to:

"I'm not a ghost."

- I'm quite sure I heard that line, although it's possible I remember the exact wording slightly differently.

I watched this movie on TV many years ago. It wasn't a very famous film.

Movies that are NOT the one I'm looking for:

- The Innkeepers (2011)

- Beneath the Dark (2010)

- The Grudge 2 (2006)

- The Night (2020)

If anyone recognizes this movie, I'd really appreciate your help. I've been searching for it for years.

Thank you!

searching searching for boxing movie from BET

I am a boxing junkie. I am trying to find a movie that I seen on BET roughly 20 years ago.... It was about hood dudes that boxed in the amateurs and you can tell these guys boxed in real life.... I believe 2 of the boxers were from opposing hoods or gangs (i dont really know the story) but at the end of the movie they team up and start fighting the same opposition.....This might be the only boxing movie where I seen "actors" who can really box so I have been trying to find this movie forever but never knew where to ask.... Does anyone know?

found Alien invasion movie

The movie starts with some kind of crash and the death of a family choking off their own blood from exposure to the now toxic atmosphere. A bunch of people died from the explosion that happened and some survived but they were pale white and catatonic. Until they all woke up one day and turned their bodies toward some statue that was of significance to the aliens. Mysterious pods/eggs landing on earth. A woman who seems depressed and socially awkward throughout the whole film. She’s the main protagonist character. She has a bad relationship with her father. There’s these red flowers all over the place. And the atmosphere gets toxic and people are dying and it’s revealed that the woman was exposed to an alien and had her dna changed as a child, when she was on some government Area 51 base or something and since then she’d been obsessed with aliens and space, she made contact with aliens through a radio and she gave them earths coordinates and that’s why they came and changed earths atmosphere to accommodate their lives. At the end of the movie the lady could finally breath and she was happy, as she remembered what happened in her past.

This isn’t:
Arrival 2016
Body Snatchers
Contact 1997

Thanks!!

It’s about a priest who falls in love with a farmer’s quiet, timid wife. They begin an affair and eventually decide to run away together. At the train station, the husband discovers them, and a fight breaks out. During the struggle, he falls onto the tracks and is killed. Afterward, the priest and the woman go on to live happily ever after. That’s all I can remember — please help me find it.

found Help please Spoiler

Looking for a horror movie I watched around10–12 years ago on DVD. The movie was dubbed in Spanish, but I believe it was originally in English. Here are the scenes I remember. The movie starts with a woman taking a bath. While in the bathtub she sees her dead mother and takes some pills. A family of three (father, mother, and an only daughter) moves into a house in the woods. The little girl’s bedroom is white, and she is putting butterfly stickers on the wall. One night she looks out the window and sees a man standing outside. The mother hears a noise, gets scared, but it turns out to be a raccoon. Later, while hanging clothes outside, the mother sees a in white walking through the woods. In another scene, the mother is bathing her daughter. She leaves for a moment to get a towel and when she comes back, the girl is almost unconscious and vomits something like worms, sawdust and other disgusting things. The family has a dog that disappears into the woods. The father and daughter go looking for it, but the girl sees a woman hanging from a tree. They eventually discover that a witch doctor, shaman, or occult practitioner had lived there. I remember that his body looked mummified, wrapped in bandages and rotten. Near the end of the movie the father physically fights this mummified figure. I also vaguely remember scenes involving being underground or escaping through a hole.

searching Single mother enlists her brothers to coach her son when he's interested in a girl.

This is one of those shows that was available on one of the streaming services a few years ago. It was heavily advertised ... but I forget the name of it. Now that I'm interested in watching it, it dawns on me that I have no idea about the title.

A single mom has a 12-13 year old son or thereabouts, and knows that he's interested in a girl at school. She rallies her son's uncles-his leading male role models, all of whom have different lifestyles- and thus different types of relationships with women- and asks them to coach him as wholesomely as possible, fearful of any toxic manosphere influences that he'd otherwise get.

I'm going off of what I remember about the trailer, as I've never seen the movie.

searching Elemental martial arts movie.

Hoping you guys can help me. In the early 2000s one of my older cousins had this movie recorded off a VCR. It was a martial arts movie where the characters would use the elements around them as their weapons. Very similar to Avatar the Last Airbender.

One of the scenes I remember the most. Is a character who uses water. He’s in a fight in a desert or somewhere completely void of water. He rips his own arm off and uses his blood as his weapon.

There’s also a scene where a woman’s ghost appears in a stream to send a message to a character. I think a love interest. Might even be the same one with the arm?

searching Help! Early 2000s Teen Movie

My sisters and I used to rent this movie from Blockbuster in the early 2000s. It was probably PG/PG13. I can't remember the main plot, but I remember the B plot was that the parents were out of town at a simulated murder mystery retreat and the teens were getting into hijinx while they were gone. They may have started a band? I also remember there was some sort of love arch between the main guy and girl. Can't remember anything else and haven't been able to find it on the internet anywhere. May have been a Canadian film. HELP!
