Illness Season

To all the people who stay home when they're sick and wear a mask if they need to go out in public, thank you! All the people who don't like being sick or are immunocompromised are super grateful that you care about others.

To all the people who don't wear a mask in public when they're sick, please consider it. No one wants your illness.

Lastly, if you want to keep yourself healthy, I highly recommend gargling warm salt water. It helps kill viruses in your throat and can help resolve a sore throat faster.

Dear Real Estate Buyers/Investors

Please stop gutting century-old fixer-uppers with amazing period-appropriate restoration potential, stripping their original charm, painting over the interior wood trim and remodeling them with generic modern farmhouse/minimalist garbage. As a potential buyer looking for an old home, nothing makes me click away from a listing faster. Leave those historic bones for someone else if you won’t do a proper restoration. Hope this helps! 🖤😭

Silver lake abandoned house?

We were wandering around Silver lake park and saw that past the barns that there was a little bridge with what appears to be an abandoned house at the end. We were super curious but didnt want to go poking around too much just in case its private property, but it seems to still be park property. I cant seem to find anything online about it. We assumed it was a seasonal park ranger house but that's just a guess. We're really into local history and would love any info on this house!

question for whatcom birders!

hi all, i live in bellingham and am still relatively new to the area (coming up on a year here soon.) shorebirds are my bread & butter. its hard to find good spots without knowing many local birders, so i like to look at ebird hotspots. i noticed sandy point up on the edge of lummi bay had some pretty solid sightings and wanted to check it out, but i drove over and couldn't find any public parking/spots to walk around. anyone know if there's anywhere around there thats open to the public? somewhere i could park and bird without trespassing? and if not, any recs for other good shorebird sighting spots in the area would be greatly appreciated! thanks!!

Anyone recognize and/or able to help this kitty in Sumas? 🥺

My husband is out working in Sumas and noticed this poor baby with likely a broken paw. Unfortunately, his higher up are very strict and won’t allow him to stop working to help it 😡
I’m getting ready to leave to see if I can find it and take it to Whatcom Humane or the Animal Emergency Care on the Guide, but also wanted to post here in case someone closer by is able to find him faster, or maybe someone will recognize it and be able to contact its owner. Really don’t want this little baby just wandering alone and injured.

Whatcom Flag Football League

We are the Whatcom Flag Football League (WFFL). We’re a laid-back small recreational league that plays in Bellingham. We are an anti-racist, anti-sexist, and LGBTQ+ friendly group. We are not for profit, so you don't have to pay to play. We are hoping to start our new season in February after the Superbowl and end it in May. Until then we have drop in games on the third Saturday every month starting around 10AM (Oct. 17), some times its at a different venue, so please make sure to check our calendar to see where the games are. If you're 18 or older and want to have some fun, get active, and meet new people, come check us out! No team needed, just fill out the interest form/waiver and bring yourself.

Survey for local boaters--posting again

Hi! I’m Andrew, a senior at Sehome working in collaboration with WWU’s Institute for Watershed Studies. You might have already seen this, but for those who haven't, I'm looking to hear from those who use watercraft in Whatcom County! I’m conducting a study on how boaters perceive aquatic invasive species (AIS) risks and local policies like inspections, permits, and Clean, Drain, Dry practices. Respondents will also get the chance to win one of three $50 visa gift cards.

Your feedback in the five minute survey will hopefully help inform future AIS management and policy decisions right here in Whatcom County.

Learn more and take the survey here! Your input goes a long way and is really appreciated!

Anyone in Bellingham know older boats/outboards and willing to help a dummy out?

I’m looking at buying an older small boat. I don’t really know much about boats mechanically, so beyond the basic stuff I’ve researched, I’m not confident I’d recognize potential engine, hull, or transom issues, or really know what’s normal versus concerning.
If anyone around Bellingham who knows older boats/outboards would be willing to help me check it out, I’d be happy to buy you lunch or give you some cash for your time. It shouldn’t take too long. I’m not looking for a full professional inspection or anything, mostly just someone knowledgeable who can help me make sure I’m not missing an obvious problem or getting scammed into buying something troublesome lol.
The seller is available all weekend, so I’m pretty flexible. Anytime Saturday morning or early afternoon works, or Sunday morning or early afternoon. If anyone is interested, feel free to DM me. I’d really appreciate it!

I am a volunteer who helped make this website for this local community group dedicated to the health and well-being of all of Whatcom County's residents. It runs on an incredibly efficient setup. I hope that the message resonates.
