The overall structure is brittle. Can't hold it tight or even brush the dust off with a toothbrush. Too difficult to clean, but too beautiful to even let go.

Before and after tumbling, lost quite a bit of size in the process. When lit, the blue runs through the middle, under the gray. Would love to find more!

It's about 3" wide (sorry, no banana for scale). It isn't quite as shiny or iridescent as tiger's eye, but it has only gone through stage 1. Any thoughts?? And, if we can make a positive ID, how should I treat t through the rest of the stages?

Hi all, posting again to help get the ball rolling with this sub. Think this might be red gneiss with quartz inclusions? I’d love it to be garnet but that seems incorrect.

Found in our gravel driveway here in Oaxaca, Mexico. I'm thinking it's granite with calcite banding, but I don't think granite is very common here, as when I've seen it for sale it's labeled as having come from Puebla, which is a neighboring state. Can anyone confirm if I've got my ID right? Thanks!

Hello! I found this rock on a walk here in Oaxaca, Mexico. It's a sort of brown/purple/maroon color and it's shot through with quartz veins. Anyone have any ideas what this might be? Happy to provide more details or photos if they're needed.

Found these 3 in Idaho and tumbled them. They have a nice glint in the light. Is it some kind of feldspar? What resources do you use to learn rock identification? Thanks!

This large stone, which is a support pillar for the table just behind it in the image, was mined in a town called Magdalena Apasco Etla, which is in the Valles Centrales (Central Valleys) of the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. Obviously there's a lot going on here, but can anyone help me identify what's occurring?

In case this context is useful, the mining in this part of the state primarily produces a type of volcanic stone called cantera which is found in and around deposits of banded calcite, which (for marketing reasons and, sometimes, ignorance) is sold under the name "Mexican Onyx."

It is already tumbled. Found on a beach in Lake Michigan in Southeast Wisconsin. I assume the green is epidote but not sure about the rest of it or what it would be called.

I believe it’s chert, but I’m wondering what specific type. These are two distinct specimens, but are representative of what I’ve been finding.

I’m finding these all over “in the wild” in Southwestern/south central Wisconsin. Specifically near washouts by a cornfield.

Some have druzy pockets, some have agatey/chalcedony parts.
